Here's another installment of my internal discussion about JMW Turner: do I hate him, do I love him, does he irritate me....

Turner's use of color is marvelous, especially because he worked in watercolors for many of his pieces. And his portrayal of the forces of nature are wonderfully evocative. But it seems to this ignorant observer that some of those storms were in his head. Sometimes I wish one of his mistresses would have walked in to his studio and said, "Joey, sit down, have a whiskey and calm down!"

Of course, I am drawn to his work and actively seek it out, so what does that say about his skill and power as an artist?
