The Morning Rant: J.V. Edition
Healthcare is a relatively complex service with several components. The first, obviously, is quality of care. Another is swift access to care. Another is efficient and respectful administration of these services. The private sector, even driven by consumer pressures can barely manage to deliver the first two components of care across the board. For America to expect its government to provide the same level of service of...anything...is laughable. But the complex demands of healthcare are simply beyond the government's abilities.
My father was a physician. When he was doing his training he rotated through a VA hospital attached to the medical school where he was doing a fellowship, and he was proud of the care he gave the veterans. But he was lucky, he was at one of the few top-flight VAs. Too many of them are ghastly excuses for hospitals, and need to be closed. Immediately.
Close them all. Close the VA. Create an insurance scheme that will provide the same cost of care but in the private sector, or even easier, just write big checks to United Healthcare or Aetna or whomever.... Then sell the buildings and the land and fire every single employee.
And then take the licenses of every cocksucking nurse and MD and administrator who treated our veterans with contempt, who failed to respect the work they did to earn...EARN...their healthcare. How we treat the soldiers and sailors and airmen and marines who protect us and fight for us and defend us is indicative of the quality of our society. And we are failing them. I don't care if the worst abuses were directed towards rear echelon cooks and warehouse workers who couldn't fire a weapon. Our country made a compact with the men (and yes, the women) who served. We must honor that agreement. We have no choice.
