Reuters: Yay, Those Expressing at Least "Some" Confidence in the Press Increased from 39% to 48%
Wow, you almost have nearly half of the country offering "some" confidence in you.
The poll of more than 14,300 people found that the percentage of adults who said they had a "great deal” or “some" confidence in the press rose to 48 percent in September from 39 percent last November. Earlier this year, Trump branded the entire industry as the "enemy of the American people."
Reuters plays this as if it's a repudiation of Trump. And if they're winning over him.
Well, they're not winning yet. Less than a majority are willing to say they have at least "some" trust in the press.
Also, they omit something rather large.
Donald Trump isn't the only candidate from the 2016 election who has been attacking the press as biased and "rigged."
Hillary Clinton has chapters in her new book attacking the press for allegedly being biased against her.
So: Is the public also rejecting Hillary Clinton's attacks against the press? Or only Trump's?
Funny that they should overlook this.
This is important, too, because it may explain how the press' trust rating has (somewhat) repaired.
The Democrats were attacking the press as having been biased against Hillary Clinton for months.
So for a time, some of those Democrats are going to give the press a negative rating.
But at some point, they naturally come to realize that their old allies The Liberal Media are still the most important faction in the Democrat alliance -- hell, the Democrat Party has now basically delegated to the media the job of communicating the Democrat Party's talking points to the public, while the Democrat Party officials themselves stay relatively quiet -- and so at some point they're going to let their old anger at the media give way and love it and their Television Gods once again.
What's the word for an industry that's celebrating the fact that one of their own polls find that almost half the country has "some" trust in them?
Oh, right: Sad!
