Free Beacon Catches the NYT in Another Credibility-Compromising Situation, and the New York Times Once Again Runs to Politico to Comment

Hillary Clinton donated $100,000 to the NYT's "Neediest Cases" charity in 2008 -- coincidentally, when she was running in a primary against Barack Obama and needed some friendly coverage.

She did not donate to it since.

This "scandal" isn't even one for the New York Times -- it's influence-seeking by Hillary Clinton; the Times can simply say "We endorsed Hillary in 2008 for our own reasons, having nothing to do with the donation" -- and yet for some reason they once again refuse to give comment to the newspaper seeking it (the Free Beacon) and instead run to liberal Politico to get their spin out.

Dylan Byers has been used for these purposes twice -- once by ABC (Stephanopolous), and once before by the New York Times (American Bridge apparently feeding them the hit piece about Mrs. Rubio).

The New York Times runs to him again -- but this time, Byers admirably notes they're attempting to use him, and calls them out for it.

One [WFB story] alleged that the Times used opposition research from a pro-Hillary Clinton super PAC to publish a negative article about Sen. Marco Rubio; another revealed that the Times accepted a $100,000 donation from the Clinton Family Foundation in 2008, the same year that it endorsed her in the contested Democratic presidential primary.

Yet the Times' response -- or lack thereof -- to the Free Beacon's inquiries suggests that the paper of record holds little regard for Goldfarb and Continetti's brand of journalism. In both cases, the Times did not respond to Free Beacon reporters when they emailed requesting comment. Then, following publication of the articles, the Times responded to inquiries from the On Media blog while continuing to disregard emails from Free Beacon reporters.

...

The two Free Beacon reports on the Times are factually sound...

Byers goes on to note that while stories in question imply causation without proving it, that is standard operating procedure for any newspaper -- including the Times' own coverage of megadollar donations to Hillary's fake charity, followed by positive Administration action in favor of the donors.

Good for him.

Also calling out the NYT's tactics as smacking of political campaigning -- Jake Tapper, who deems this liberal media practice flatly "unacceptable."
