So Brian Williams Has Been Suspended, Without Pay, For Six Months
Kind of a cutting-the-baby-in-half sort of deal, isn't it?
I mean, suspending someone for six months, without pay, is... I don't even know if it's legal. How can they claim that they still own his contract when they've decided to not honor the "paying the guy money under the contract" part of the contract?
So it's a nonsense resolution. It's a bizarre attempt to both keep him and fire him.
Newsflash, News Division: You cannot both fire someone and keep them as an employee.
That is, you can't, unless Brian Williams is so desperate he's agreed to this, which of course he probably has.
And so will Williams be back? Possibly, if his replacement tanks. But if his replacement -- or any replacement that comes down the pike in the ensuing months -- does well, then Williams is in fact fired.
Peacock Panic: NBC in Disarray Over Brian Williams
The embattled anchor, already in self-imposed exile and lawyered up, has now been suspended without pay for six months amid an NBC investigation.
UPDATE: "We have decided today to suspend Brian Williams as Managing Editor and Anchor of NBC Nightly News for six months," NBC News president Deborah Turness said in a statement Tuesday evening. "The suspension will be without pay and is effective immediately."
There's not anything more than that -- that links to an article but the article was written pre-suspension, with that UPDATE added up top. That's all the news there is as of now.
And, okay, I thought we knew Jon Stewart was leaving for a while, didn't we? Well, I thought we did. He now confirms he'll be leaving by the end of the year.
If you care, which you don't, and neither do I, but I guess I have to mention it.
If you're bored of this topic, please go down to the below post which does have Non Williams News Content, and I'm kind of squashing that post with this one.
What? Via @rdbrewer4, Brian Williams, according to Mediaite, lobbied to be the host of... The Tonight Show?!?!
Okay, that's crazy but in a way it's not.
Apparently Brian Williams had some Walter Mitty in him, and apparently he was kind of bored out of his skull by his job, and wanted to do something completely different for which he was entirely unqualified.
Hey man I can kind of get that. I bet 80% of readers feel that way, at least sometimes.
Oh well. Crazy, and tired of working the corporate TV News Reading gig. Not the worst things to be.
