BLIZZCON Thread 11/09/2014

there really wasn't much new news this week outside of Blizzcon so it's a short thread this week

BlizzCon was this weekend. They announced a new game and they showed off two expansions. One is the upcoming Starcraft 2 expansion, Legacy of the Void. And the other is an expansion to Hearthstone

First off was this year's StarCraft 2 World Championship Grand Finals. Not gonna lie, I got bogged down with stuff so I didn't get to watch much outside of the TaeJa - Life half of the semi-finals and the Grand Finals. I really like TaeJa and like everyone else, I expected TaeJa to faceroll Life. Yeah....that totally didn't happen as Life just completely outplayed him with just non-stop zoning TaeJa out of his third expansion spots with constant Zerg attacks. It was a damn good match even with TaeJa being outclassed. This did lead to a more interesting Grand Finals with Terran vs Zerg against MMA, at least on paper. Life didn't just outplay MMA, he clowned him on stage as Life just went balls deep and kept it in there. You can't out-aggress that kind of play from Life and MMA paid for it dearly. After getting past TaeJa, it was a stupidly easy walk to the $100,000 grand prize. Also brings to the forefront in why a loser's bracket is the best setup in eSports.

Titan may be dead but they have scrabbled something together for all that time working on it in the form of a Team Fortress style FPS called Overwatch.

They also released a cinematic to the last expansion pack to StarCraft 2, Legacy of the Void. Hopefully the campaign is more Heart of the Swarm and not Wings of Liberty. Also hope they don't buff PROtoss too much considering it's the Toss focused expansion.

And the money is ready to keep rolling as they announced a new expansion to Hearthstone called Goblins vs Gnomes

NINTENDO DIRECT

• Nintendo showed off Fire Emblem's upcoming game, Code Name STEAM again

• Nintendo also announced the expected Majora's Mask 3DS port

Nintendo also disappoints with not making a new Duck Hunt game but just re-releasing the NES game as a VC title :(

NEWS

Acitivision's quarterlies is up to $753 mil. They still refuse to give any meaningful numbers on Destiny sales giving and saying an ambiguous 9.5 million registered players have/are playing it.

NEW RELEASES

When it comes to big games this week, you really only have three: the Halo Collection, AssCreed Unity and the Warlords of Draenor expansion pack to World of Warcraft.

Halo: Master Chief Collection (XBO) - Can't say I've ever been a big fan of "remasters" but I do have to admit that this package is quite nice as it collects Halo 1-4, every multiplayer map, Halo 5 multi beta and it gets you a ticket to the new five episode Halo miniseries, Halo Nightfall which takes place between Halo 4 and 5. Would have liked it if they also threw in a couple of the novels as well but still, that's a lot of content for your money as a value proposition.

World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor (PC) - I've been playing MMOs over 20 years. Started with Neverwinter Nights and some MUDs (Habitat being main MUD) then made the progression to UO and then EverQuest and then kept playing most of the main ones (got addicted as all hell to Lineage) but yet of all of the ones I've played, WoW was never one of them (outside of a couple trials). Don't ask me how that happened (as I really can't answer why) but it's been a blind spot on my MMO playcard. Weird how life works. They're revamping the graphics again with this release. Asking me about anything WoW is a bit futile.

Assassin's Creed Unity (PC, PS4 & XBO) - Ubi's keep pushing this tired franchise. Personally I just don't care about this franchise anymore. Black Flag was cool as it at least didn't make you run through the same crappy town over and over again which also let them hide the fact that the combat is still completely crap, Throw in a French Revolution backdrop where I've got blood that died in it (on the bad end) and I just can't be assed to say "yay".

Assassin's Creed Rogue (360, PS3 & PC) - Because you haven't gotten enough Assassin's Creed this week, Ubi is releasing another game in the series on last gen consoles (PC XBO & PS4 comes out in March). At least this one has ship combat which was frankly the only good thing about 4.
