John Kerry: The Christian Bible Says That We Must Protect Muslim Countries From the Evils of Global Warming
He speaks repeatedly of "doody."
I will not challenge that word choice.
"Confronting climate change is, in the long run, one of the greatest challenges that we face, and you can see this [doody] or responsibility laid out in Scriptures clearly, beginning in Genesis. And Muslim-majority countries are among the most vulnerable. Our response to this challenge ought to be rooted in a sense of stewardship of Earth, and for me and for many of us here today, that responsibility comes from God," he continued.
You know, when they're already laughing at you, thinking you pathetic, weak, craven, and stupid, you should probably not paint yourself right into that corner.
Oh, and meanwhile, Jonathan Alter writes something about this moment being Obama's "moment of truth." Why bother saying that? We know he's going to fail it, and we know you'll cover up for him.
But I was struck by Alter's need to continue flattering failure:
On one level, Obama’s appreciation of nuance and complexity equips him well to confront the two-front crisis. For instance, his decision two years ago not to arm the Syrian rebels is looking smart in retrospect; if he had, large numbers of those weapons would have fallen into the hands of ISIS. Obama is what was once called a "long head" -- a leader who patiently tries to think a few moves past everyone else. This is a good thing. Thinking hard before reacting is usually the wiser course.
The religious zealot is not marked by the true things he loudly proclaims to be true, but by the silly things, the absurd things, the plainly false things.
