Remember That Terrible Story About Irish Nuns Burying Dead Babies In A Septic System? The AP Has A Slight Correction On That One
800 dead babies discarded like so much waste into a septic tank by Irish nuns because they were the product of illegitimate births. Quite the stomach churning tale and cause for revulsion and outrage.
Well there may have been a few problems with their story according to the AP. Chief among them the actual number of bodies in the septic system.
The AP published quite the correction of which this is only part.
In addition, in the June 3 story, the AP quoted a researcher who said she believed that most of the remains of children who died there were interred in a disused septic tank; the researcher has since clarified that without excavation and forensic analysis it is impossible to know how many sets of remains the tank contains, if any.
So the number could be 800, 11 billionty or possibly zero. Somewhere in there.
Follow the link for the rest of the correction.
Layers of fact checking ain't what they used to be.
Great job by Beckett Adams of the Washington Examiner for catching that stunning correction.
