Saturday Car Thread 6/21/14 - [Niedermeyer's Dead Horse]

The abbreviated edition:

Earlier today, Moronette Anna Puma offered an item for the car thread. Now, while I welcome her reminder that today is Saturday and that a car thread was due, I take issue with her suggestion that with all the beautiful cars I feature here each week; the Corvette show, the glorious Caddy from Myrtle Beach, the exquisite classics that I've scattered throughout, that this should take it's place alongside them.

My initial reaction was an indignant "Harumph!" which was immediately followed by an "Oh! It's Saturday!" recognition that I had not yet drafted the post. I had accumulated a pile of good content for this week's thread: Cars that run on coffee, the cost of potholes, a "guess who bought a new McLaren" but no, because shortly after Anna's "contribution", Moron Village Idiot's Apprentice got in on the act with his own little "contribution". The Saturday car post has been mocked, and this will not stand. Thus, here's your Saturday Car thread for this week, an abbreviated version.

You can thank Anna Puma. And Village Idiot's Apprentice. But, mostly, Anna Puma, because she should know better.

The hottest Volkswagen Beetle on sale today is the GSR, which gets 210 horsepower from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four. Cute, right? But when prepped for Global Rallycross duty, the Beetle ditches its love bug image for one that’s a bit more . . . blood-spitting fire ant. Or is it vein-collapsing mega-squito? Either way, the Beetle GRC punches out 544 horsepower from a tiny turbocharged 1.6-liter four—and it weighs as little as 2668 pounds.
