Cain's Big Press Conference (And Oh, I Lied, More Cain Stuff)
Regarding Bialek, Cain called her a liar, and further said he doesn't even remember meeting her. He also said that he has never behaved inappropriately with anybody.
I want him to confirm or deny that hotel upgrade.
Anyway, as the earlier post suggested, the plan is to suggest that Bialek has a cash-money motivation for telling lies, though Ben Smith points out she lives with a rich fiance in a five-bedroom home, in one of those nice Chicago suburbs like the type I see in John Hughes movies.
Still -- that's not her money, and I guess anyone could use a quarter million dollars or whatever she could plausibly get for a book deal.
It gets a little tough for Cain, because he's not pushing against one accusation, but four, and even as he prepares to push back on Bialek, a friend of Karen Kraushaar starts speaking to the press (without being named):
A longtime friend of one of Herman Cain’s unnamed accusers tells CNN that Cain dangled a job promotion in front of the accuser at the same time he “made her very uncomfortable” with sexual “innuendo and overtures.”
This woman told CNN she spoke extensively with her friend about Cain’s conduct in 1998 at the time the accuser was allegedly being harassed by Cain while they both worked at the National Restaurant Association…
The friend tells CNN the accuser would sometimes “come home in tears, and it would all come pouring out how upset she was.”
At least I assume that is Karen Kraushaar, because her friends began talking in that The Daily piece I linked earlier. Gotta be. Timing is too perfect.
So there is another contemporaneous bit of witness corroboration by another person without (so far) any clear motive to lie.
Via Allah, Kraushaar is apparently considering what could be the last move in this game.
She is not ready, according to this friend, to make a public statement and was planning to watch Cain's Tuesday news conference.
According to the friend, Kraushaar is considering having a press conference in the future, perhaps with some of the women who have accused Cain but have not yet made their stories public.
That would be pretty devastating, I'm thinking. Unless the women were transparently lying, but I for one don't anticipate that will be the case.
