Revenge, Sweet Revenge, For "The Nech"
When they got Ben "The Nech" Domenech, we all wondered at first how we could go on.
Although the world was a darker, colder place after that miserable day, we found the strength to endure.
And plot. Plot our vengeance.
Well, Patterico got that vengeance for us. That nitwit who wrote the Golden State Blog had his blog suspended by the LA Times for posting messages on the newspaper's website under different names, which, it turns out, is violation of the paper's ethics code (requiring bona fide identification of those offering opinions).
(See below post for details.)
We won. This is our finest moment.
Correction/Clarification: Checking out Little Green Footballs, I note him saying that Hiltzik's blog was suspended, not Hiltzik himself.
It seems to me, though, that if this is a serious enough offense to get a dopey blog suspended, it has to be serious enough to get a reporter fired.
Either reporters have a duty to use their real names when expressing their opinions or they don't. It can't be that you're not allowed to do this but, if you do, the paper will just take your blog away.
That would be silly.
Actually, I just wrote that because I think it might be fun to parodize the left by pretending that we think the "Hiltz Hit" is really, really important. Like they think that getting "The Nech" was.
But it's not, of course.
Okay, he was a douche, and he deserved to be suspended or fired on general principles. What kind of insecure, needy douche needs to post messages praising himself under a different name?
But really, it's not a major victory for "our side." It's a dishonest and juvenile idiot getting caught dirty. No one ever heard of this guy.
That's kind of the difference between our side and theirs. They go into orgasmic swooning over the most trivial "victories" -- getting Jeff "The Ultimate Warrior" Gannon banned from the WH press room, getting "The Nech" canned at the Post -- and fellate themselves off for weeks over how they Spoke Truth To Power and not only managed to survive, but walk away with a glorious triumph.
I don't even know the name of the guy who got suspended at the LAT. It's Hitzik or something like that. I'm not going to bother learning it, because I'll never have to write it again.
Anyway. There seems to be a sobriety gap and a maturity gap between the right and the left on getting their decidedly low-level "scalps."
Patterico deserves credit for showing up a dishonest tool for what he is, but no one on the right is going to claim that he beat Goliath to death with the jawbone of an ass.
That said, I'm going to pretend that this is the MOST IMPORTANT STORY OF THE ENTIRE YEAR, as the left did with Gannongate and l'affaire "The Nech."
Thanks to Allah.
