The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition
DEI is alive and well and living in the hearts and minds of many of our corporations. And that is okay. The overwhelming support for it has disappeared, as many companies ditch it, or cover it up, or simply make it a low priority. The remaining enthusiasts will be competing on an uneven playing field, and they will be punished by the markets.
If Apple wants keep DEI, that means they will be competing for competent employees from a smaller pool than their competitors. The numbers don't lie, and eventually their fixation on race and sexuality will damage their vaunted engineering and marketing prowess.
Apple's board recommended shareholders reject DEI rollback proposal
But Apple recommended shareholders vote against the proposal, stating that it was "unnecessary as Apple already has a well-established compliance program and the proposal inappropriately attempts to restrict Apple's ability to manage its own ordinary business operations, people and teams, and business strategies."
DEI often involves prioritizing race, gender or sexuality in hiring, training and programming, and the initiatives have been criticized by conservatives as divisive and discriminatory. Proponents of DEI say these efforts address racial divides and provide support for groups who have been historically marginalized.
California just got punched in the mouth by the repercussions of focusing on race and sexuality over competence. Los Angeles is burning, in part because they have a bunch of sub-wits running things, and that is a direct result of California's fixation on fat lesbians pretending to be firefighters.
Maybe Apple can hire Kristin Crowley as their chief engineer when she is tossed out of Los Angeles on her ample ass! Or maybe Kristine Larson, of 'He got himself in the wrong place' fame as head of marketing! She sure impressed everyone with her abilities!
Perhaps in 10 years, as Apple's tech skills decay in opposition to their diversity, their customer base will shrink to a base of iPhone fanbois and legacy users who can't switch to more modern systems without huge training and hardware costs.
Or...they quietly reevaluate their insane stance on choosing color and sexuality over quality, and move to a more sane hiring and advancement policy. Disney didn't do that, and has lost half its value, probably due to its ferocious commitment to every DEI and Woke idea. Because with race and sexuality fixated hiring comes race and sexuality fixated employees! Disney got movies filled with those obsessions, and how did it work out for its stockholders? Not well at all.
The real question is whether the obvious lack of interest among most Americans with regard to DEI policies will eventually sweep it away. Sadly, the indoctrination in our universities is still going gangbusters, and Griggs v. Duke Power Co. is still the law of the land, and gives disproportionate power and influence to the academy.
Who will win is anyone's guess, but the markets are difficult to beat in the long term without good products and growing profits. Hopefully they will get rid of DEI before it destroys our remaining industrial and technological base!
