Good afternoon to the Weekend Hobby Thread. Hopefully you have some time to catch up with your hobbies since Thanksgiving. IBH I haven't been painting much. A couple of pieces are started and I'm stuck. So, instead I've been reading quite a bit this past couple of weeks. What else is going on in the Hobby World?

Regular contributor and all around good Moron Clay once again demonstrates his creativity. From home made string instruments to rocket ships.
Occasionally, when I see something on the internet that I think looks cool, I use web searches to find the best pictures that I can, develop “engineering drawings” from those pictures in drawing software, and use those drawings to help create a 3D model of the cool thing in software on my Mac. Then I take the digital model and modify it as needed so it can be 3D printed in pieces that can be assembled in the real world. Here’s my two most successful attempts. Obviously, they didn’t challenge my rudimentary painting/weathering skills.
One is an art deco spaceship originally developed for a 1930 movie called “Just Imagine.” However, the prop achieved immortality when it was reused 6 years later as Dr. Zarkov’s spaceship in the 1936 Flash Gordon serial. This model is about 8 inches long.
The other model is a spaceship named the Orbit Jet from the 1954 TV series “Rocky Jones, Space Ranger.” It stands about 14” tall because I wanted it to be imposing. I made it as a Christmas gift for my brother… he loves that ancient tv show.
I’ve made a digital 3D model of the spaceship from the 1964 movie “Robinson Crusoe on Mars” in my Mac… but I haven’t yet done the work to make it “printable.” Before I do that, I think it needs more greeblies (like rivet heads and/or panels) to look realistic. Soon, maybe… Clay

This really looks like fun. I might have to attempt this in the warmer months here at the Frozen Tundra. My little studio is not set up to exhaust the fumes of spray paint.
