Ace of Spades Pet Thread, May 27

Good afternoon and welcome to the almost world famous Ace of Spades Pet Thread. Thanks for stopping by. Kick back and enjoy the world of animals.

Would you like a treat?

Let's relax a little with the animals and leave the world of politics and current events outside today.

History

Today, in the Gardening Thread, we saw a few photos from a road trip Rodent took with his wife. Here's another one that's pet-related, featuring some really brave dogs:

This photo from 1902 shows French knife grinders. They would work on their stomachs in order to save their backs from being hunched all day. They were also encouraged to bring their dogs to work to keep them company and also act as mini heaters by having them rest on their owners' legs. They were also called ventres jaunes ("yellow bellies" in English) because of the yellow dust that would be released from the grinding wheel.

Meet The PetMorons

Molly1 2.jpeg

From M E:

Attached is Black Dog Three (Molly) needing a brush. She had been rolling around the back yard in the dried up weeds and grass and came into the house to show off her hard work.

You can have clean floors or you can have dogs, you can not have both at the same time.

Molly, Molly, Molly!

The clean floor proverb holds true.

From just Christopher:

A picture of Daughter #2's puppies. I guess that make them my "grand doggers." The one on the right is Scully Pants, about 5 years old, 60 lbs, and previously made almost world famous in Ace's Pet Thread. The one on the left is Benjamin Franklin, about 4 years old, 98 lbs last vet visit. Benjamin Franklin is an American Bulldog ( and I think perfectly named - you wouldn't name him Winston or Vladimir would you ? ). When he first came, Scully Pants and Benjamin Franklin took one look at each other and instantly bonded. They are the bestest buddies, inseparable. They are staking out THEIR spot on THEIR couch, although they will let you have a small spot between them.

Benjamin had a sad puppyhood, he came from a house that kept him in a 4 x 6 cage and they only let him out periodically. His ribs showed and he limped when he tried to run. When he came to Daughter #2's house he was really rather overwhelmed, it took him awhile to realize he had been adopted by someone who would love and care for him. It was about 3 months before I saw him wag his tail for the first time. Now he is healthy and prances around and wags his tail with the best of them. And of course Scully Pants still has his 400 mph tail. For such a big dog Benjamin is the sweetest guy. He loves to nuzzle and if you sit in your tiny spot on the couch he sometimes tries to get on your lap so you can scratch his ears.

Those two dogs look like great friends!

Again, our official Ace of Spades Swiss Guide Dog takes us on a little adventure, this time to a Community Barbecue, where her sister gave a talk. It might be nice to have a Community Barbecue with puppies invited, here in the USA, too. Would your dog like this?

If you start feeling nostalgic, here a link to last week's Pet Thread, the Ace of Spades Pet Thread, May 20 Some special PetMoron stories and photos there.

I closed the comments on this post so you wouldn't get banned for commenting on a week-old post, but don't try it anyway.
