My favorite toy as a child was a water rocket. It had a transparent red forward area, and a white rear area. You'd fill it up halfway with water, then attach it to a hand-held air pump and pump a lot of pressurized air into it. Then you'd release the catch that held the thing on to the pump, and it would fly maybe 50 or 75 feet into the air, blowing out water as a propellant.

My second favorite toy was a Fisher-Price parachute guy with a real working parachute. Cleverly, the parachute lines were made of some silicone-like rubber, so they did not, get this, get hopelessly tangled after a couple of uses and render the entire toy useless. I think GI Joe parachute guys used string to attach to the parachute, and could all be found on the floor of closets after a couple of uses.
