Breaking: Post-Millennial: Elon Musk Fires Twitter's "Content Curation" Team
And Their "Human Rights" Team?!
Plus: Fear and Loathing at CNN

BREAKING: Twitter's "content curation team" -- the people who gather leftwing propaganda and shriek it into your timeline 24/7 -- has been fired.

Twitter's "Curation" team, the group responsible for highlighting event on Twitter, has been fired, employees say.

"Here's to the past and present Curation Tweeps I've had the absolute pleasure of working with for the past 18 months," said Laura Savvas of Twitter.

According to Twitter's description, the curation team is "responsible for highlighting and contextualizing the best events and stories that unfold on Twitter."

"Our work, across multiple product surfaces, including Topics, Trends descriptions, and Moments, makes it easy for customers to experience only-on-Twitter conversations and get the most out of the platform, regardless of which accounts they follow," the description continues.

"We manually monitor Trends and work to add context to help answer the question, 'Why is this trending?' We do this by attaching a representative Tweet to the Trend, adding a title and description, or curating a Moment to give more direct context. We may also add a combination of these."

Over Twitter, someone is complaining that Twitter's "Human Rights" team has gotten sacked as well.

Shannon Raj Singh @ShannonRSingh Yesterday was my last day at Twitter: the entire Human Rights team has been cut from the company.

I am enormously proud of the work we did to implement the UN Guiding Principles on Business & Human Rights, to protect those at-risk in global conflicts & crises including Ethiopia, Afghanistan, and Ukraine, and to defend the needs of those particularly at risk of human rights abuse by virtue of their social media presence, such as journalists & human rights defenders.

Today is a Good Day, officially.

This is a date that will live in ecstasy.

Meanwhile, CNN "journalists" are leaking that both ratings and morale are worse than they've ever been at CNN, and other sexy things designed to get you sprung, Son.

CNN's lefties are attacking honcho Chris Licht -- himself a lefty, but carrying out Warner Discovery CEO David Zaslav's orders to slim CNN down and make it a news organization again.

They're citing poor ratings, but CNN has long had poor ratings. They're seizing on poor ratings as a reason to attack him because 1, he's firing all their leftwing pals and might just fire them as well, 2, telling them they cannot use a multibillion dollar company as their #Resistance Twitter Feed any longer.

So they're sniping at him anonymously to media "reporters," like Dylan Byers.

[T]he criticisms of the Zucker era seem like nitpicking compared to the current predicament. It's become clear that there's more than one way to potentially jeopardize CNN's long term business prospects beyond a temporary leftward lurch during a norm-shattering presidential administration--namely, by making it largely irrelevant to viewers in all but the most newsworthy moments, destroying its mechanisms for growth, and, perhaps most critically, losing the faith of the newsroom.

"Making it irrelevant to viewers except in breaking news moments" = but our leftwing zombie partisans don't have any reason to tune in to us, except during breaking news moments, if our hosts aren't screaming Validating Propaganda at them 24/7.

"Losing the faith of the newsroom" = waaaah, we're in this job precisely so that we can scream Validating Propaganda into the faces of NPC lefties 24/7 and we don't like you making us report on real news!

The part about "killing mechanisms for growth" is continued whining about the end to CNN+, the end of their insane idea to turn CNN into a Lifestyle Brand featuring celebrity cooking shows and Jake Tapper hosting a book club (believe me, that always ends in disaster), and cancelling orders for extremely leftwing "documentaries" where "documentarians" scream Validating Propaganda into the faces of NPC Progressives.

These days, amid record-low ratings and a new round of layoffs that Licht had once promised not to make [noice! -- ace], the morale at CNN is lower than it has been at any point in the decade that I've been covering the network. (As many of you know, I used to work there, too.) In the last 72 hours, at least twenty CNN employees, including on-air talent and rank-and-file staff, have called or texted me, many of them unsolicited, to tell me, in one way or another, that things have never been worse.

I bet they're butthurt about not being able to "do more" about their precious Democrat Party's looming electoral reckoning, too.

As everyone here already knows, Licht arrived at CNN with an ace reputation as a great news producer, someone known for eliciting the best from elite talent. And yet he swiftly made a series of decisions that confounded many industry insiders (beyond the inconsequential decision to tone down chyron display copy).

That's inconsequential? That was CNN even dropping the pretense of being anything other than an Own the Cons Animal House.

First, he signaled that he was going to operate at an altitude above the newsroom. Unlike Zucker, the network president who was ensconced in the center of the action, with an office in the middle of the scrum, Licht was the C.E.O., despite a notable lack of business pedigree.

He's been doing this for a decade or two but he Lacks the Proper Credentials.

Zing.

He also opted to run his operations from the corporate floor, not the newsroom, either intentionally or inadvertently sending spooky signals to talent and executives, almost as if he were The Watcher.

He's not sending love-you-babe texts to the "talent" but maintaining a management-employee remove, so he's basically an evil psychopath.

The early months of the Licht era were filled, alas, with cuts--vanquishing CNN+, defenestrating Stelter, etcetera

You misspelled "Huzzah!" as "alas."

--and being a good corporate soldier as economic headwinds amplified and Zaz's Herculean cost-cutting operations at the parentco level came into full view. It was only in recent months that he began the building part of the job.

There's a simple explanation for Licht's first failure: Nobody likes Jake Tapper. He's the Eddie Haskell that idiot schoolmarms think people should like.

Since formally taking over CNN in May, Licht has made two big programming decisions. The first was his call to move Jake Tapper to 9 p.m., historically the most lucrative and highly rated hour in primetime. The decision was said to be a temporary move for the midterms, but as I've previously reported, Licht's goal all along was to make Tapper the permanent host of the 9 p.m. hour, and the face of his CNN. (Tapper had long been reticent about taking a primetime role, in part because it would take him away from his family--hence the need to court him with a trial run.)

The effort, however, quickly fizzled: Tapper's viewership cratered week over week, and as of this Monday he was drawing less than 450,000 total viewers, with just over 100,000 in the advertiser-relevant 25-to-54-year-old demo. On Wednesday, I asked Tapper by text if he intended to keep the primetime slot. He did not respond, but an hour later a CNN spokesperson told me that Tapper would be returning to his 4 p.m. slot after the midterms. The spokesperson said CNN would announce "post-election plans for that time slot in the coming days." (I also learned today that Tapper's longtime P.R. representative Lauren Pratapas, a vice president of communications, has been let go by the network.)

LOL, they fired his PR person too? And CNN was paying for his PR person?

Why does Jake Tapper need a PR person? He literally spends every free moment (and a lot of moments when he should be unfree doing his actual job) attacking critics in DMs and flattering his sycophants. All his Huge Honkered narcissist does is Jake Tapper PR.

Licht's other big swing has been a new CNN morning show, helmed by Don Lemon, formerly one of CNN's strongest assets in primetime, which debuted on Tuesday. The inaugural episode drew just 387,000 total viewers and 71,000 in the 25-to-54-year-old demo--numbers that are significantly lower than the last incarnation of CNN's New Day, and that media executives described to me, by turn, as "brutal," "humiliating," and "an abject disaster." The show is still in its first week, and may eventually find an audience.

Because people often give Shit Sandwiches multiple tastings, just to make sure they weren't missing any nuances in the Shit Sandwich's flavor profile.

...

What is perhaps most notable about the outreach I've received this week is the overwhelming lack of faith in Licht himself. This goes well beyond the rank-and-file staffers who are fearful that they or someone they know might be laid off. It includes notable on-air talent who no longer trust in Licht's leadership, his vision, or his ability to execute in the one area where he has historically excelled, which is producing quality news programming.

Licht is rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic, and Tapper is his Captain Smith. The only difference is Tapper is dm'ing the iceberg to ask why he's trying to hurt his image.
