"Illinois Man" of No Apparent Political Leaning Sends Hoax Anthrax Letters to Four Members of Congress; Quickly Arrested by the FBI

At least on political affiliation the leftwing Democrat Propaganda Media is willing to report.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- A 37-year-old Illinois man is charged with sending threatening letters to members of Congress containing a white powder, including one with a note reading "HAH enjoy the gift," according to federal court records.

The criminal complaint unsealed Monday claims Matthew Ungelsbee sent at least four plain white envelopes with a powdery substance to elected officials in Chicago. They were postmarked in Springfield, Illinois, on Oct. 19 and had Unglesbee's name handwritten in the return address section.

Unglesbee, of Quincy in southwestern Illinois, is charged with mailing threatening communications and perpetrating a hoax...

FBI agents interviewed Unglesbee at his home on Sunday and he told them all the letters contained salt, court records show. He claimed he'd sent the letters after hearing someone talk about similar mailings in the news earlier this month.

Testing confirmed the white substance was not dangerous. The records did not identify the substance.

A motive was unclear. But Unglesbee said he knew the congress members would "take it serious" because the powder might be perceived as anthrax, which he knew was dangerous and could prompt a response by hazmat teams, according to the complaint.

"Unglesbee claimed he was joking but recognized the recipients would not know he was joking and could perceive it as a threat," the complaint stated.

...

The investigation began after an anonymous tipster reported overhearing Unglesbee in a restaurant talking about mailing a suspicious substance to members of Congress. The tip was received Oct. 16, and the FBI tracked Ungelsbee down after the envelopes arrived at the congressional offices days later.

The failure to state his political affiliation is interesting because you know if he were a Republican, it would be mentioned in the first paragraph. And the second paragraph. And the third paragraph. And then it would be missing from most of the fourth paragraph but make a last-minute 11th hour appearance in the last sentence.

But there's no mention of any party registration.

This guy says that your suspicions about that are completely accurate:

Registered Democrat Facing Federal Charges After Mailing Hoax White Powder to Multiple Members of Congress

A 37-year-old Quincy, Illinois man identified as Matthew Unglesbee faces federal charges for allegedly mailing threatening letters containing a suspicious white substance to multiple Illinois members of Congress. Reports indicate that Unglesbee is a registered Democrat in Adams County, Illinois.

The federal investigation initiated after the FBI received an anonymous tip from an individual who overheard Unglesbee discussing the letters at a restaurant. In videos published to social media prior to his arrest, Unglesbee spoke explicitly to fellow Democrats, saying, "Let's flip the House and the Senate Democrat" and urging people to vote to change policies. Despite these statements, his specific actions targeted Democratic congressional offices, creating severe disruptions that prompted emergency law enforcement and hazardous materials responses. Envelopes were delivered to the offices of Senator Tammy Duckworth, Representative Mike Quigley, Representative Jan Schakowsky, and Representative Brad Schneider. Subsequent laboratory analysis determined that the enclosed white powder consisted of harmless table salt, accompanied by handwritten notes reading "Haha" or "Ha enjoy the gift".

During interviews with federal investigators, Unglesbee reportedly admitted to sending the items as a copycat action. He acknowledged that recipients would likely perceive the substance as dangerous materials like anthrax and experience concern for their personal safety. Court records show that Unglesbee has an extensive criminal background, including previous convictions for child sexual assault, impersonating law enforcement, and threatening a local police chief. He is currently listed as a registered sex offender.

Now that the FBI is investigating actual crimes instead of Trump, his lawyers, and his campaign manager, and his campaign manager's lawyers, it's actually making some important arrests.

The Canton Police Department in Georgia said Tuesday that three people have been arrested in connection to a foiled plot to shoot up a school next year after the FBI reportedly spotted social media posts regarding the plot.

The FBI notified Cherokee High School in Canton of the plot after seeing "threatening social media posts," and the school notified local police, according to the Associated Press. Cherokee was the alleged intended target of the shooting, which arrest warrants claimed was scheduled to take place next August.

The arrest warrants identified two of the suspects as 17-year-old Shane Keith Taylor and 21-year-old Michael Brandon Terry, who allegedly reached an agreement with an unidentified juvenile suspect to provide weapons and had planned outfits and discussed buying body armor, video cameras and combat boots. Taylor is considered an adult under Georgia law.

It is not clear how the suspects know each other, and the third suspect, who is still a minor, has not been identified. However, he was arrested on Oct. 20 and is tied to the town.

Cherokee County School District Superintendent Mary Elizabeth Davis reassured parents in a video message that local and federal law enforcement had successfully disrupted the plot, but acknowledged the terror of the planned attack.
