CNN will see layoffs and other cuts in the coming weeks, as the global news division responds to a worsening economic climate and as Warner Bros. Discovery continues its effort to bring together the WarnerMedia and Discovery businesses.
CNN CEO Chris Licht explained the rationale in a memo to staff Wednesday, adding that "our aim is to have most of these decisions made by the end of the year so we can start 2023 feeling settled and prepared for the future."
LOL, here's your Christmas bonus, it's a severance package. LOL.
Employees at CNN have been bracing for the changes since Licht began a review of the news division's business lines and its programming.
...
In his memo, Licht cited the worsening macroeconomic environment as one reason for the cuts.
But wait I thought there was no recession.
In fact, as Clownfish TV points out, CNN itself is always insisting, along with their handlers from the Biden Administration, that There is no recession.
But here is CNN's President saying he's laying people off due to the "worsening macroeconomic environment."
Does anyone know of a synonym for "worsening macroeconomic environment"? Preferably a one-word synonym? And, I don't know why I ask this, but I'd really like the synonym to begin "recess-" for some reason.
Interestingly, Licht says the recession is only one reason for the layoffs.
What are the others? Just getting rid of deadweight and excess fat, as was the case with Brian Stelter, I imagine.
There is persistent buzz that Zazlov's goal is to slim CNN down to the point where it's actually profitable -- dare to dream! -- to make it attractive as a purchase for some other media conglomerate. He's looking to sell a lot of Warner Discovery's shitty legacy sub-companies.
Speaking of deadweight that brings nothing to the table except a furrowed brow and the persistent smell of stale farts, Jake Tapper's ratings.
CNN boss Chris Licht moved Jake Tapper from dayside to prime time and his ratings have been going down since his debut.
Tapper, who is about as exciting to watch as growing grass as seen his ratings dip. This past Friday (10/21), Tapper averaged its lowest-rated telecast among P2+ since launch, down -40% vs. the first airing.
It also delivered its 2nd lowest-rated telecast among A25-54 since launch, down -46%.
P2+ ratings are the ratings for people aged 2 and older. In other words, everybody.
Jake Tapper more like Jake Crapper amirite
Now, they're not going to fire Jake Tapper. Jake Tapper is the simpering, toadying Eddie Haskell of propaganda corporate news. He's a determined little brown-noser, ass-kisser, and cheek-polisher and taint-buffer who burrows eagerly into every butt above him in the hierarchy.
If he's got time to brown-nose everyone on twitter with 1000+ followers, imagine the fawning he does for people higher-ranking than himself in the corporate power structure.
Imagine.
He will, like Don LeMon, get "promoted" back down out of prime time, though.
