First-World Problems...
Shoe laces are an invention of the devil, or at least one of his imps. First of all, they break at the most inopportune moments, usually when you are in a rush, and always when you don't have an extra pair. Second of all, the technology of shoelaces has changed not a whit in hundreds of years. Why can't some intrepid marine rope maker produce chafe-resistant shoelaces using the same amazing technology and materials that modern man uses on his boats?
Obviously this is monopolistic behavior on the part of Big Lace. They probably have teams of hit-men spread out across the world, eliminating intrepid upstarts who want to break the stranglehold they have on the world shoelace market.
And don't get me started on umbrellas!
