Obama, Soros, European Politicians Behind Push to Pressure Corporations to Boycott Twitter Unless Musk Agrees to Act as the Censor for The Regime

Muh Private Corporation, National Review whined.

REVEALED: George Soros, Clinton and Obama staffers and European governments are behind anti-Musk campaign to force big corporations to boycott Twitter - after Elon demanded to know 'who funds these organizations?'

A group of 26 activist organizations and NGOs signed a letter to companies who advertise on Twitter, warning them to reconsider if Elon Musk makes changes

Musk has pledged to lift the 'censorship' of Twitter: critics worry that he will give free rein to those trafficking in hate speech and dangerous scientific theories

The letter writers said that Musk 'will further toxify our information ecosystem and be a direct threat to public safety'

They wrote: 'Twitter risks becoming a cesspool of misinformation, with your brand attached'

Musk replied, wanting to know who was behind the 26 groups signing the letter, and commenting: 'Sunlight is the best disinfectant'

...

Musk himself responded to the letter asking who funded them: the answer being an assortment of 'dark money groups' like George Soros's Open Society Foundation; NGOs founded by former Clinton and Obama administration staffers; wealthy Democrat donors and their family foundations; labor unions; and the governments of European nations.

'Elon Musk's takeover of Twitter will further toxify our information ecosystem and be a direct threat to public safety, especially among those already most vulnerable and marginalized,' they wrote.

They warned that advertising on Twitter would see their company 'risks association with a platform amplifying hate, extremism, health misinformation, and conspiracy theorists.'

The authors continued: 'Under Musk's management, Twitter risks becoming a cesspool of misinformation, with your brand attached, polluting our information ecosystem in a time where trust in institutions and news media is already at an all-time low.

'Your ad dollars can either fund Musk's vanity project or hold him to account. We call on you to demand Musk uphold these basic standards of community trust and safety, and to pull your advertising spending from Twitter if they are not.'

Obama himself just criticized social media monopolies for "not going far enough" to censor speech. Soon after, Biden announced his Ministry of Truth initiative.

"Each of us, whether we work at a tech company or consume social media, whether we are a parent, a legislation, an advertiser on one of these platforms, now is the time to pick a side," Mr. Obama said. "We have a choice right now: Do we allow our democracy to wither or do we make it better?"

"That is the choice we face," Mr. Obama said.

Mr. Obama said government regulations are needed to address the dark side of the digital revolution, which has left people confused as to what they should believe.

The government needs to tell people what they should believe. Obviously.

He said it is time to consider changes to Section 230 of the 1996 Communications Decency Act, which social media website owners have used as a legal shield to argue that they are not responsible for what users post on their forums.

"We do expect these companies to affirm the importance of our democratic institutions -- not dismiss them, and to work to find the right combination of regulations and industry standards that will make democracy stronger," Mr. Obama said.

The Democrats have been threatening this forever -- which is why the monopolies, who are at-risk for the very reason that they are monopolies, have given the Democrats the censorship they demand piecemeal through the years.

...

"People like [Russian President Vladimir] Putin and [former Trump adviser] Steve Bannon, for that matter, understand it is not necessary for people to believe this information in order to weaken democratic institutions," he said. "You just have to flood a country's public square with enough raw sewage."

"You just have to raise enough questions, spread enough dirt, plant enough conspiracy theorizing that citizens no longer know what you believe," he said. "Once they lose trust in their leaders, the mainstream media, political institutions, in each other, in the possibility of truth, the game is won."

Tulsi Gabbard said that Obama is the real mastermind in the global effort to impose Regime censorship on everyone, and Biden is just his stupid pawn.

Last week, Dave Reaboi highlighted this great Tablet article in which Jacob Siegel
imagines Obama as the General leading the forces of censorship and tyranny, while Elon Musk has suddenly pushed himself forward as deep-pocketed resistance leader.

So it's war.

Twitter, the social media platform that led the charge in censoring reporting on the Hunter Biden laptop, was reluctantly forced to approve Elon Musk's $44 billion "leveraged buyout" Monday after running out of options to block the deal. With that move, the richest man in the world, with a day job running electric car manufacturer Tesla, instantly promoted himself to five-star general of a free speech army fighting to liberate the internet from top-down political control. "Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated," Musk tweeted in his first statement announcing the deal, where he also pledged to make the platform's algorithms open source "to increase trust," defeat the site's spam bots, and authenticate its human users. "The Berlin Wall of censorship fell yesterday," internet entrepreneur David Sacks tweeted on Tuesday.

If Sacks had wanted to use a different metaphor, he might have said that Musk had captured a key foothold--a defensible initial position from which to build up forces in an effort to gradually expand the territories in which it's possible to dissent from the party line on issues like COVID-19 or U.S. policy in Ukraine where discourse has been most tightly regulated. Because, with this latest move, Musk and a merry band of fellow billionaires that includes Sacks and the venture capitalist Marc Andreesen seem to be coalescing into an American counterelite committed to breaking the monopoly on public discourse held by our current ruling class.

On the other side of the skirmish line we have the forces of the bipartisan political establishment under the command of General Barack Obama. The members of this faction are easy to identify because they have been engaged in an unhinged freakout for weeks. Ever since news first broke indicating that Musk was trying to acquire a controlling share of Twitter, his critics have been apoplectic about the dangers to democracy that will be unleashed by allowing users to more freely share and view information. Former Clinton administration Labor Secretary Robert Reich captured the shrill zeitgeist of apocalyptic liberal technocrats everywhere when he warned that Musk's "libertarian vision of an 'uncontrolled' internet [is] also the dream of every dictator, strongman, and demagogue." Uh, sure, "what linked Idi Amin, Suharto, and Adolf Hitler," James Kirchick recently noted in The Scroll, "was their belief in unfettered freedom of speech."

But the official, buttoned-up version of the freakout was articulated by Obama himself. Less than a week ago in a speech at Stanford University, the former president warned that it's necessary to impose more regulations on the internet, in order to prevent toxic disinformation from destroying American democracy by eroding citizens' trust. "Once they lose trust in their leaders, in mainstream media, in political institutions, in each other, in the possibility of truth, the game's won," Obama told the audience at the Silicon Valley hub. "As Putin discovered leading up to the 2016 election," Obama said, "our own social media platforms are well designed to support such a mission."

Who are you going to believe, the Democratic Party's new official-unofficial, public-private monopoly tech platform censorship brigade, or your misinformed, disinformed eyes?

The Stanford speech was a nearly perfect encapsulation of what is so corrupt about the disinformation discourse--which is, at this moment, frantically being redirected against Musk to force him into playing ball or being painted as a Russian stooge. In the same speech where he made the case for more censorship, even while hollowly proclaiming his commitment to free speech, Obama could not stop himself from echoing the single most destructive piece of disinformation of the modern political era--the establishment's "big lie" that Russia swung the 2016 election for Donald Trump, a claim that has repeatedly been proved false but is kept alive because it makes such an effective political weapon.

Obama has to uphold the Russian collusion narrative, even if it means spreading disinformation himself, because that extraordinary claim established the basis for the joint government-tech company control over the information environment, which was expanded under COVID and he now wants to fortify. In the current system, which Musk is vowing to change, social media platforms take orders on censorship protocols from government officials and partisan functionaries with titles like "fact-checker" who work inside the complex of NGOs funded by the Democratic Party.

Do read the whole thing.

The Ministry of Truth demonstrates the growing inability of the Cathedral to persuade & an increasing need to just explicitly tell people what to believe
People have gone from arguing to either ignoring or presuming (not incorrectly) that it's all disingenuous propaganda at best

Maybe @HillaryClinton's most important point so far: "A @realDonaldTrump presidency would embolden ISIS." #ImWithHer

Nina Jankowicz @wiczipedia Thanks for this important piece, @elisethoma5. The platforming of extremists and purveyors of disinformation [on Substack!] is one of the big reasons I moved my (small, but I like to think mighty) newsletter to Revue.
David Reaboi, Late Republic Nonsense @davereaboi · May 1 Sharp piece from @Jacob__Siegel at @tabletmag. Here's the most important part--which is why the fraudulent RussiaGate was the most consequential scandal in US history. [quoted above -- the part about Obama having to stick to the lie about Russian collusion, as the Russigate conspiracy theory is the key foundational myth supporting the push for global Regime censorship]

Dissent from Leftist orthodoxy was long considered "racist," "sexist," yada yada. Only after RussiaGate did dissent become officially a matter for the national security state to address. With Covid, dissent became a threat to public health--justifying similar crackdowns.

The effort to turn January 6 into a regime-threatening "insurrection" was another, meant to turn homeland security and counterterrorism against normal Trump voters. Like all the others, that one failed in public but succeeded where it counts: reorienting elite decision making.

Some of us tracked this as it was happening--we shouted into the void that is the collective mind of GOP leadership. Note that they tagged along with every one of these until it was too late.
