The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

I must confess that I have never seen this "artist" in anything, and in fact had never heard of her in spite of her self-professed skills. But I was struck by the whiny entitlement and the lack of any perspective in her protestations that she was denied a role simply because of her skin color.

Now...hear me out, because I am going to suggest another possible reason. I know it's crazy, but it is just barely possible that she didn't get the role because she wasn't good enough. Yes, that's just crazy talk!

The reality is that she is a child of privilege who has gone through life with the expectation that she will get what she wants with minimal effort. That she didn't cut the mustard in the reading (or whatever they do nowadays) never even enters her spoiled little rich girl mind. or that the only reason she got the audition was because of her parents, who are clearly more talented than she is (Lisa Bonet may be nuts, but she can act. And Lenny Kravitz is...well...Lenny kravitz), and did just fine.

Specifically, she would reveal she was rejected from a role in Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises telling the British outlet, "I don't know if it came directly from Chris Nolan. I think it was probably a casting director of some kind, or a casting director's assistant..."

She added, "Being a woman of colour and being an actor and being told at that time that I wasn't able to read because of the colour of my skin, and the word urban being thrown around like that, that was what was really hard about that moment."

Not only did she claim she was rejected from a role in The Dark Knight Rises, but she also claimed that "all the scripts that were being sent were about the first Black woman to make a muffin or something."

"Even though those stories are important to tell, I also want to open things up for myself as an artist," she stated.

This is nothing more than a temper tantrum of a spoiled child. That other people with darker skin have been wildly successful in the entertainment industry doesn't seem to have entered into her analysis of the situation. And for a sort-of-objective comparison, take a look at the Wikipedia photos of this twit and another black actress named Halle Berry. Who is darker?

I noticed this not because she is important, but because her specious charges showcase the degradation of our cultural aptitude for hard work and the expectation that failure is a part of life. The uniqueness of American Exceptionalism is that failure is not the end. Look back at our country's history, and many of our greatest successes were abject failures at one time.

Injecting race into the discussion and reflexively blaming racism for one's failures is unfortunately the flavor of the times. Critical Race Theory (CRT) does exactly this, and it has nothing to do with equality in employment and everything to do with breaking down traditional (read: Western) views of self with the goal of alienating non-white social groups to such an extent that we suffer a total breakdown of society.

That of course leads to a socialist nirvana. Or maybe a communist dictatorship and unimaginable misery for most of us.

My money is on misery.
