Surprise! The Science (TM) on Masking Changes Just In Time to Allow Congressmen to Attend the State of the Union Mask-Free!

Breaking911 @Breaking911

NEW: Congress drops mask mandate ahead of Biden’s State of The Union speech on Tuesday

"Mask wear is now an individual choice option," the Capitol Attending Physician said.

@Breaking911
Just 2 days after the impact research memo advising democrats to end covid was leaked. Incredible

See the prior post about Leana Wen in which I recap Brandon's own pollster telling him in no uncertain terms that he must ditch the Covid Zero lockdown and masking regime as soon as possible to avoid electoral disaster.

And lo and behold, here he is, just in time for the SOTU, discovering even more Changing Science!

As I've been saying for weeks: The Ruthless podcast guys predicted that Brandon planned to make the relaxation of covid masking rules the Big Good News of his State of the Union, and has been jerking us around for months, keeping the mandates in place because he wants to announce the relaxation of rules in primetime during his big night.

The Science (TM) apparently only works if you announce it in primetime to a maximum possible audience.

State of the Union preview, below. Also, don't assume that everything under the fold is skippable. The best parts of the post are below.

It was a standard claim of Obama's that things were great and that we were just too unenlightened and bestial to appreciate the great things he'd done for us.

Last week it was also reported both that the CDC was admitting that vaccines and boosters were causing myocarditis in young men -- something that there was evidence for for a long, long time, but which the CDC refused to admit, because it would have interfered with their Vaccinations for Everyone political propaganda line. (Not science guidance -- political propaganda.)

Also, the CDC admitted that it had data about the efficacy of the boosters for young people but decided to hide that data from the public.

Which is almost surely because the data would show that boosters were essentially useless for young people, who have very low covid risk in the first place, and even lower covid risk if they're vaccinated:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has withheld vast swaths of the information it holds about the impact of COVID-19, leading to anger from the scientific community and speculation the agency is not releasing the data because it weakens the case for booster shots in certain demographics.

Two weeks ago, the CDC published the first significant data on the effectiveness of boosters in adults younger than 65.

But the agency, led by Dr Rochelle Walensky, did not share the information on those aged 18-49, who are considered to be the least likely to benefit from a booster.

...

She said the agency's 'priority when gathering any data is to ensure that it's accurate and actionable,' and told The New York Times that they were concerned it might be misinterpreted to show the vaccines were ineffective.

...

The 18-49 year old age group is considered least likely to benefit from the booster, given that death rates among the age group are already low. It is far more likely for the elderly and immunocompromised to get sick without their booster than healthy young and middle aged people.

So the CDC was simultaneously 1, hiding data that boosters were actually dangerous for young people while also 2, hiding data that boosters had nearly no positive effect for young people.

Denying the science because the real science would disprove the political decision made by Fauci, Walenski, Collins, Klain, and Biden.

But Trust The Science (TM) You Guys.

The Telegraph: It is now accepted behind closed doors by Boris Johnson's whole government that covid-19 was cooked up in a Chinese lab.

A lab leak in Wuhan, China, is now considered the most likely origin of the Covid pandemic "behind closed doors" in the Government, it has been claimed, after Boris Johnson signalled that security measures would be enhanced to prevent accidental escape.

On Monday, the Prime Minister told the House of Commons that the UK biosecurity strategy would be refreshed to protect against "natural zoonosis and laboratory leaks" in a public acknowledgement of the threat from insecure research facilities.
There is mounting suspicion that Covid-19 leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology which had been collecting, and experimenting on dangerous bat coronaviruses in the years before the virus first emerged in the city.

You can tell that China and the China Gain-of-Function Research Lobby is feeling the heat, because now two American virus researchers step up to argue, "What does it really matter, in the end, where the virus came from? Isn't the important thing just beating the virus, rather than arguing about who's responsible for it?"

Let's not bicker and argue about 'oo killed 'oo.

Knowing the Origins of COVID-19 Won't Change Much

It would change a lot. It would change the US relationship with China, and it would change whether or not firms like yours get paid by the US to do gain of function research.

More importantly, focusing on origins begs a question were there really major health policy or research directional changes for previous pandemics when the origins were determined?

In that very poorly-constructed sentence, they mean to ask, rhetorically, have there been previous cases where knowing the origin of a virus suggested research paths for combating the virus?

And then they argue, no, there have not been cases where discovering the origin provided important clues to fighting the virus, so why are we trying to find out if China, the Wuhan Lab, EcoHealth, and Anthony Fauci are responsible for unleashing a lethal pandemic on the world?

Doesn't matter! Let's just say "Something Happened" and we can never know what and MoveOn.org!

Now they argue the initial suspicion that China made the virus was... racist, and therefore the lab leak theory is tainted and we must dismiss it forever.

Yet the World Health Organization (and much of the scientific community) initially agreed with the Trump Administration's claim that understanding the origin of SARS-CoV-2 was of vital immediate importance. The administration's concern was, plausibly, less a matter of dispassionate interest in science but more an effort to open a new front in the U.S. response to a rising China, or an effort to divert attention from a delayed and chaotic U.S. response to the pandemic. Those who advocate for an intensive effort to discover the origins of SARS-CoV-2 assert there would be value in terms of establishing public or public health policy based on that understanding. Just what should be done differently to counter Delta or, now, Omicron by understanding the origin of SARS-CoV-2 better? Knowing origins could bring closure to the ongoing politically charged debate and contribute importantly to scientific understanding. We doubt, however, that knowledge of origins would change anything about how we should respond to the challenges of SARS-CoV-2, or how we would prepare for a future pandemic. We can act now on the assumption that either hypothesis (nature or laboratory leak) could be correct.

"Either theory could be correct" so let's leave it there and stop trying to figure out which theory actually is correct.

"Science is overrated." -- Scientists

To quote Monty Python and the Holy Grail again:

Okay, we'll call it a draw.

By the way, who are the authors of this piece?

BY ROBERT C. GALLO AND DEAN T. JAMISON FEBRUARY 23, 2022 2:39 PM EST

Dr. Gallo is Homer & Martha Gudelsky Distinguished Professor in Medicine and Professor in Microbiology and Immunology, Co-Founder & Director, Institute of Human Virology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore, and Co-founder and International Scientific Director, Global Virus Network, Baltimore. Dr. Jamison is Edward A. Clarkson Professor, Emeritus, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and Institute for Global Health Sciences, University of California, San Francisco, and a Scientific Advisor to the Global Virus Network, Baltimore.

Global Virus Network, huh? Global... Virus.. Network?

Say, I wonder if they have anything to do with the Wuhan Institute of Virology that actually created this virus, whose origins they are determined not to discover.

Well... Looky here.

BALTIMORE, Jan. 29, 2021 /PRNewswire/ --The Global Virus Network (GVN), comprising foremost experts around the world in every class of virus causing disease in humans and some animals, today announced the addition of three new Centers of Excellence including the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), part of the Chinese Academy of Science...

The Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), Chinese Academy of Sciences, offers, among other world-leading expertise, valuable resources in bat viruses and coronaviruses and will be an important Center for studying response to emerging viral diseases.

Yeah you don't say!

"I support increasing global collaborations and transparency in science, particularly related to this current pandemic crisis," said Dr. Zhengli Shi, Professor at WIV and director of GVN's new Center in China. "In addition to sharing our coronavirus research and any new breakthroughs with my fellow colleagues at the GVN, I am also looking forward to sharing my experience in Africa, particularly the National Museums of Kenya and the Kenya Wildlife Service, regarding our surveillance studies in bats, rodents and camels in East Africa."

Time Magazine, which published the Who Cares Where Covid Came From Anyway propaganda, failed to note that the authors were now literally business partners with the FUCKING BAT LADY who made Covid-19 in the Wuhan Lab with her own little hands.

For that matter, Hot Air, which linked this story, also failed to do basic due diligence and check out who these guys were. I assume this was Drinky McDrunkerson's sloppily drunken work, as usual; he's always the one getting off on Owning the Cons by linking leftwing propaganda.

Below, a thought I had last week, which added to a post too late for anyone to notice it.

A further thought:

I don't agree with the Vulgar Marxism of the left. "Vulgar Marxism" is an epithet applied to Marxist/leftist thinking that attempts to explain behavior in the capitalist west in the crudest way possible: "Oh, of course that happened, someone's just making money from that."

No matter how far-fetched it might be that someone was doing X for money might be. Thus, the adjective "Vulgar" in the phrase. The thinking is vulgar, crude, unrefined. Stupid.

But Russel Brand did make a Vulgar Marxist point I said "Hmmmm" to:

His point was that the west, which pays for vaccines, is pretty much all vaxed up, as far as adults go. The market is saturated. The only unvaccinated adults are those who can't be vaccinated or won't be vaccinated.

The only adults yet unvaccinated are in the third world, who are charity cases, to whom vaccines must be donated for zero cost, or else sold for just above cost.

But you know who you can get vaccinated, still, and get paid money for, at full costs, no discounts?

Kids. Kids in the wealthy west.

So thus the push to vaccinate not just kids, but kids as young as two years old.

Five years ago, hell, two years ago, I would have said, "No way, your pinko paranoia is getting the best of you."

But now...?
