First-World Problems...
No, it has nothing to do with FWPs, but it made me laugh, so...
But I did solve a First World Problem this week!
I have a 5.1 home theater. For the non-geeks among us that means five speakers plus a sub-woofer. I have played and played with the balance of the sound but the mid-range...the voices...always seemed just a bit muddled. So I splurged and upgraded the center-channel speaker, which is responsible for a lot of the mid-range and voices.
And who could have guessed! It sounds fantastic now! Voices are clearer and easily distinguishable, and what I find interesting is that we have decreased the volume a little bit on most things we watch.
High fidelity used to mean accurate reproduction of music, but with the advent of large, high quality TVs we have moved to quite different needs for home stereo systems. The music reproduction on my excellent home theater system is good, but not quite as good as I would prefer, because obviously they are designed for TV.
So the only recourse is to build a dedicated music system, just like the ones we all lusted after in our teens: monster tower speakers and hundreds of watts of power! But I got rid of those speakers 20 years ago!
Damn.
