Democrat Chair of January 6th Commission Will Subpoena Phone and Text Messages of Republican Congressmen

Prepare for a decade of blackmail and leaks about sexts and dick-pictures as the Democrats decide to use the nation's spy capabilities against the real enemy, all domestic opposition.

The Democratic chairman of the committee investigating the January 6th MAGA riot in the Capitol revealed on Monday he'll seek phone records from several hundred people, including Republican members of Congress, as part of the probe.

Rep. Bennie Thompson declined to identify which lawmakers would be sought but told reporters on Capitol Hill his committee is reaching out to tech and communications companies as well as social media platforms for hundreds of records from that day.

'We have quite an exhaustive list of people. I won't tell you who they are, but it's several hundred people that make up the list of people we are planning to contact,' he said when asked if the list included family members of former President Donald Trump.

He confirmed it also includes some Republican lawmakers.

While it's unclear which lawmakers are on Thompson's list, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Republican Rep. Jim Jordan both have said they spoke to then-President Trump that day.

A friend of mine commented that this is obviously "despotic," but said there was a silver lining: the sell-outs and weaklings in the GOP may finally understand the despotism the rest of us are being forced to live on, due to their constant surrender.

Of course, this assumes that they're not blackmailed into obedience.

This is similar to Michael Malice's idea that the brutish fascism the Ruling Class is imposing on us is actually a good thing, because people will finally stop obeying them.

I think an analogy he uses is that after a cop beats you up with a nightstick for merely protesting the state, you will not trust a cop again, and your illusions about the nature of force will be shattered.

Likewise, you can only be lied to about masking or Afghanistan so many times before you simply stop believing the government.

I don't know if that's helpful, though. Fascism is never imposed on all the people; even fascist regimes need to keep at least 40% of the public on their side. They demonize 40-60% of the populace so that their 40%-60% supporters will support imposing fascism on the Out Group. By being careful about how many people it brutally represses, the Ruling Class can keep itself in power for a long time.

But the good news is this: The Ruling Class is hysterically incompetent and will probably not be able to manage a Soviet-length run of totalitarianism.
