American Optimism For the Future Drops Twenty Points In Three Months

But... but the tweets!

Have they no optimism remaining about the precious tweets?!!

In the ABC News/Ipsos poll, just 45 percent of Americans are optimistic about the country's direction this coming year, down from 64 percent in early May. And the drop was about the same 20 points for Republicans and Democrats -- and worse, 26 points, for independents.

It's no wonder. Consumer prices rose 5.4 percent in June from a year earlier, the biggest monthly jump since right before the 2008 financial crisis. Even the post-pandemic recovery seems at risk, as new unemployment claims jumped last week to 419,000, the highest level since mid-May and more than twice the average in pre-pandemic 2019.

Yet Biden claims there's "no evidence" his expanded jobless benefits slowed the return to work and refuses to admit his vast spending plans threaten even more inflation.

Crucially, Biden's handling of the pandemic got its lowest rating yet, with 63 percent approval. That's better than he's earned.

That's a nine point drop. So yes, it's still in positive territory -- and falling fast.

And that's before the panic of the Delta Variant and the new lockdowns.

And rumblings from the teachers unions -- which controls the CDC far more than "the science" -- that maybe they're not going to return to class in September.

From ABC:

Although still a majority, it's a nine-point drop from late March -- the high for Biden. It likely reflects the growing concern that lockdowns could be reinstated and already vaccinated Americans could need a booster shot as the highly contagious delta variant now is estimated to account for 83% of all new coronavirus cases in the United States. As of Friday, according to Health and Human Services data obtained by ABC News, the United States' daily case average was up 47% compared to the prior week, and on Wednesday, the nation recorded its highest single-day new case total since April.

Worry about a resurgence of the virus is also apparent when looking at how concerned the public is about contracting the virus.

That 70s Joe, with its programming of stagflation and joblessness, isn't playing too well with the public:

Additionally, the level of approval for the president's handling of the country's economic recovery from the pandemic has also dropped by seven points since late March, when 6 in 10 approved, according to ABC News/Ipsos polling. Although jobless claims were expected to hit a new pandemic-era low Thursday, instead, they increased to a level last seen in mid-June, though it's too soon to know if that will become a trend.

On crime and immigration, Biden gets poor marks, even from partisan Democrats:

On other issues, Biden's approval is underwater, and lackluster even among his own party.

Fewer than 4 in 10 Americans approve of the president's handling of immigration and the situation at the U.S.-Mexico border, crime and gun violence. Republicans have hounded Biden and Democrats over all three, as border crossings and violent crime rates, especially in Democrat-run U.S. cities nationwide, surge.

The most popular president in American history, folks!

Stacy Lennox at PJ Media reports similar bad news from a Rasmussen poll.

Perhaps the news on inflation and indications that it will be persistent are affecting the right track/wrong track numbers. After six months of Biden in office and slower economic and job growth than predicted, for the three weeks ending July 15, 39% of likely voters think the country is heading in the right direction, and 54% believe we are on the wrong track.

...

Seventy-one percent (71%) of Democrats, but only 15% of Republicans and 37% of unaffiliated voters, rate Biden good or excellent on his handling of the economy. On crime and law enforcement issues, 62% of Democrats, 12% of Republicans and 25% of unaffiliated voters rate Biden excellent or good.

The Democrats are running the January 6 show trial in an effort to distract the public from the carnage going on in Blue Cities.

But that doesn't seem to be working -- a majority of the public want investigations into BLM's "Summer of Love" riots and murders.

Majorities of every racial group and political affiliation support a congressional investigation of last year’s violent protests. Sixty-seven percent (67%) of whites, 64% of black voters, 66% of Hispanics and 62% of other minorities think Congress should investigate the 2020 riots in U.S. cities. Seventy-five percent (75%) of Republicans, 60% of Democrats and 63% of voters not affiliated with either major party say Congress should investigate last year's violent protests.
