First-World Problems...Part 493
I am second to none in my parsimony, but I have always wondered why people use substandard parts that are absolutely going to fail (or in this case corrode) far earlier than a modestly more expensive replacement.
Well, I don't really wonder; I know the answer. It's just irritating. How much more for stainless steel for that corroded crap? $3? $7? I would gladly pay it, especially since the damned valve is also corroded and if I move it to replace the faceplate and paint it will probably fall apart.
Oddly, some businesses tend to go in the other direction. I had to get a starter replaced a few weeks ago, in a 13-year-old car. It really doesn't require a new starter...a rebuild would be just fine, but car repair places around here tend to use the new (and expensive) stuff no matter what.
Yeah...I know why.
So who has the best story about substandard parts being used and promptly biting you in the ass; or even better; biting the contractor/mechanic/repair man in the ass!
