EMT 3/20/21 Good problems edition.
It might actually be a day off today.
All the long hours are starting to pay off.
After 2 months of prep, 6 weeks ago I opened a new location for Job 1 that has far exceeded expectations and even hopes. I have been scrambling trying to right size my staffing and my supply chain, and things finally seemed to be on-track and I felt like I could grab a breath. Then I got the time to actually get the signage up. I don't know that I expected anything, but business immediately jumped by 30%, and has maintained that for 2 weeks. So, hire more people and lay the groundwork for extended hours to meet demand.
At the same time Job 1 has been consuming so much of my time, my side consulting business got really busy. Since Job 1 is Job 1 and is going well, I have the need and the luxury of treating Job 2 like a hobby, which has the lovely side-effect of making the clients want to pay more money to compete for my time.
Job 2 is great for my brain. I've invested 20 years in building the knowledge base and experience that puts me in demand, and that investment makes it hard to walk away from. But I think the time will come in the not too distant future when growing a more profitable Job 1 is going to take all the hours I should reasonably spend away from my family.
My wife has been a trooper through the last few months, home-schooling one and house training another, and I really hope that I'm seeing a light at the end of the tunnel here and that I can start to lighten her load.
The whole family has been wonderful these last several months. Better than I probably deserve, and I will continue to try hard to be at least the husband and father they deserve.
