Congress voted to make the 2020 election rules permanent -- again ignoring the Constitution's words that state legislatures will make their election laws -- and then went home, claiming the risk of QAnon Shaman raiding the Capitol was just too great.

The Capitol Police have requested that members of the National Guard continue to provide security at the U.S. Capitol for another two months, The Associated Press has learned. Defense officials say the new proposal is being reviewed by the Pentagon.

The request underscores the continuing concerns about security and the potential for violence at the Capitol, two months after rioters breached the building in violence that left five people dead. And it comes as law enforcement was on high alert Thursday around the U.S. Capitol after intelligence uncovered a "possible plot" by a militia group to storm the building.

The potential plot is tied to the far-right conspiracy theory promoted by QAnon supporters that former President Donald Trump will rise again to power on March 4, the original presidential inauguration day.

A friend said darkly, but accurately: And when absolutely nothing happens -- yet another "intelligence" conclusion that turns out to be bullshit -- they will say it was only their vigilance and their sadly-necessary Show of Force that kept the Bad Orange People away.

And NeverTrump -- the leftwing's Amen Chorus -- will cheer like children at a baseball game.

Meanwhile, National Review -- always bothered by the threat of authoritarianism under Trump -- continues its stalwart, principled stance against government authoritarians and crackdowns on dissidents:

The bloodthirsty Caesarists of National Review will claim they are just against all domestic violence, but, oddly enough, they don't seem at all bothered by the DOJ "quietly" dismissing the charges against many of the leftwing antifa terrorists that they're allied with:

Some of the most serious charges dropped include four defendants charged with assaulting a federal officer, which is a felony. More than half of the dropped charges were "dismissed with prejudice," which several former federal prosecutors described as extremely rare. "Dismissed with prejudice" means the case can't be brought back to court.

Wait, but I thought it was necessary to keep MAGA protesters in jail for years awaiting trial just because other protesters hit federal cops.

I thought that hitting federal cops was so great a crime that even people who did not hit cops had to be kept in jail permanently before trail.

And yet here we have the Biden government that National Review worked hard to bring into being simply dismissing, with prejudice -- an "extremely rare" maneuver designed to confer immunity from future prosecutions on these terrorists -- and National Review has no particular comment on it.

Truly, these are our most brave and stalwart defenders of liberty and justice.

I just wish I could send them more of my money.

They told us they had to suspend the normal safeguards of the FISA court and investigative ethics because the threat was just too great.

That was bullshit.

They told us we had to lock ourselves inside our houses for "just two weeks," which was more than a year ago.

They told us we had to isolate and quarantine the healthy because the threat was just too great. Despite there being no studies demonstrating the effectiveness of quarantining the healthy and asymptomatic.

That was bullshit.

They told us they had to start routinely censoring us and deplatforming us and driving us from the public square.

Because the spread of "dangerous misinformation" was Just Too Great a Threat to allow. We had to destroy free speech to save free speech.

That was bullshit.

And now they tell us that they're going to have to permanently lock down the Capitol and start routinely denying bail to mere trespassers.

Because, once again, The Threat Is Just Too Great.

Wow, the "principled" guardians of our democratic birthright sure do seem eager to suspend the functioning of our safeguards of freedom whenever The Threat Is Just Too Great, which is literally every fucking hour of every fucking day now.

And the supposedly super-duper Smart Guys of Conservative, Inc. keep buying into the bullshit, every single time, and attacking other people -- you know, the "Dumb People Who Don't Understand How the World Works" -- who are skeptical of our government's tenth convenient lie that requires the wholesale sacrifice of our personal and political liberties.

And every single time, NeverTrump is right there to say "Amen" to the left's latest Religious Lunatic Purges and Lockdowns.

But they'll tell you, to a man, that they're the Smart Ones who Understand How the World Works.
