The Morning Report - 2/11/21 [J.J. Sefton]

trelaynepros.jpg

Good morning, kids. Thursday and in thinking over the absolutely disgusting nature over the debate about Mark Cuban being forced by the NBA to play the National Anthem at games, and the reaction of junta mouthpiece Jen "Piss-Hockey" Psaki siding with Cuban because, essentially, the nation formerly known as the United States of America is - or was before it was finally overthrown last month - irredeemably flawed, maybe it's better not having "The Star Spangled Banner" played in public anymore. Think about it; the official policy of the alleged (nudge-nudge wink-wink) 'president' is to smear the nation of which he now leads; that is to say, rules.

That said, assuming anyone with half a brain is even watching an NBA game, it's better not to give a bunch of sub-literate multi-millionaire thug pituitary cases a forum to defecate on a symbol of what we cherish and paid for so dearly while demanding our respect. Not so long ago, professional athletes were once admired for their athletic abilities and achievements and as role models. Professional sports were also an escape as well as an opportunity to come together and share a common cultural bond that transcended our differences. All of that, now, is part of a vanished world. So let the PA systems in the arenas and stadia remain silent. The tin ears and thick skulls of these goon-stooge useful idiots who do nothing but shoot, throw, hit or otherwise place whatever object into whatever receptacle while blood-libeling the birthright that gave them their opportunity in the first place are unworthy of the words and music of Francis Scott Key. Put the staves away for safekeeping along with the flag of a now deceased nation.

While that little drama played out, the debasing and defiling of the rule of law continued in the Senate with the Soviet show trial of President-in-Exile Donald Trump. The highlight, or lowlight was a ruckus between Jamie Raskin and Mike Lee.

Lee was clearly of the belief that that characterization of events and of comments -- as attributed to him in particular -- was inaccurate. As the Senate moved to wrap up business on the impeachment trial for the day, Lee sought to have those Cicilline comments stricken from the record...

...This led to a remarkable moment where Sen. Pat Leahy (D-VT), the president pro tempore of the U.S. Senate who is also presiding over the impeachment trial of Trump since Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts declined to preside, given that Trump is no longer in office, made an unclear ruling apparently rejecting Lee's motion. Lee then appealed his ruling and sought a vote in the Senate to override Leahy, and after several confusing moments the Senate began voting on Lee's objection to Leahy's unclear ruling. After a couple senators' names were called when the clerk began calling the roll of Senators to vote on Lee's objection, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer spoke up and intervened to stop the vote. Schumer used a tactic called noting the absence of a quorum -- essentially pausing the Senate's formal business as televised for the nation while senators and staff handle a dispute or negotiation off camera -- to "work this out."

Moments later, they came back into action and Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD -- the House Democrats' lead impeachment manager -- admitted that Cicilline's characterization of Lee as it related to the Trump-Tuberville phone call, while based on news reports, was inaccurate, and then he withdrew the matter from the record himself without a Senate vote...

...These fireworks on the Senate floor closed out the first full day of opening arguments in the impeachment trial of Trump in the Senate, the second such trial Trump has faced. He was acquitted last year in his first impeachment trial. While this mistake by House impeachment managers is unlikely to change any votes in either direction -- it is pretty widely known Trump seems headed for another acquittal -- this drew the attention away from the core facts of the case being offered by the managers and onto personal drama in the U.S. Senate, a clear boon to Trump's legal case.

It draws attention to the fact that Leahy, not Roberts, is presiding over the trial while also serving as a juror -- and a witness, since he is a senator and was there on Jan. 6 -- meaning that a Democrat senator and political opponent of the accused, Trump, is serving as judge, jury, and witness in a trial.

Amazing. They can't even conduct a high-tech lynching without stepping on a rake. I'd laugh my ass off were it not for the weeping and rending of garments. I have no love lost for Mike Lee because of his record on a number of issues, specifically immigration and his general Trump aversion over the past four years. But what the Democrats are doing here is beyond the pale. Meh, what have they got to lose? They stole the 2020 election, are doing everything they can to keep in place the apparatus to steal every other election going forward and are now engaged, with the eager assistance of large swathes of the financial, information technology and business sectors, in structurally dismantling a free market based economy and open society, with the concomitant freedoms and individual rights of the citizens, and erecting in its place a monolithic, corporate/fascistic command and control state in its place.

Whatever the outcome of this garbage (and a conviction is highly unlikely), PIEOTUS Trump is at least going to be seen as a victim and, if they continue with the persecutions and smearing of not just him but of ordinary citizens who support him and in point of fact support the notion of America as founded, they will have created a martyr and energized a movement. The 75 million who voted for him and perhaps double that number who either support him or are scared shitless of what's happened to the country are going to be a force to be reckoned with. One way or another.
