Open thread, of course, but suggested topic: Oddball or lesser-known songs from a performer or group.
Here's a few odd ones from... well, I don't know many cool groups, so here are some deep cuts from Hall & Oates.
Here's the shallowest deep cut. This one even had a video, though it was never a big hit. But a lot of people will probably recognize it. It's good. Should have been a big hit.
Hall & Oates started off as a soft rock/folk rock group, scoring some early hits with Sara Smile and other Soft Rock Zzzzzz100 type fare.
Then they couldn't buy a hit to save their lives. They tried every different genre of music they could think of.
There was that time they thought they were sort of hard rock or even punk:
Hall & Oates' attempt at a half-Elvis Costello/half-Beach Boys fusion new wave sound.
Yeah it's strange.
Eventually they decided to try a sort of pop rock/rhythm and blues hybrid, and that led to Kiss On My List, and their official career as chart-topping artists.
But they were like Spinal Tap -- they attempted every genre of music (apart from metal) before then. They kept chasing trends but never caught one.
Until they did, obviously.
Do you have any oddities, off-speed-pitches, and shoulda-been-a-hit songs from bands you'd like to share?
