Dress Pr0n For the 'Ettes:

Greetings From Lebanon
So the story here is that the mayor of the small town of Brummana (located about 10 miles outside of Beirut) got the idea that having a bunch of hotties in short-shorts directing traffic would be good for his town's tourism.
But in an *Islamic* country?
Why not? The mayor explains:
“We in Lebanon want to change the bleak picture of Lebanon in the West. Ninety-nine percent of the tourists in the Mediterranean region wear shorts. People in the West don’t visit Lebanon because they think it’s a country of Islamic extremism. We want to show that we have the same way of life as the West. You wear shorts and we wear shorts. We have democracy. Our women are free.”
The AoSHQ Saturday Afternoon Chess Thread salutes Pierre Achkar, mayor of Brummana, Lebanon.

Problem Solutions
Beginner Problem - White To Play

r1bqk1nr/ppp3p1/1b1P3p/nP3Q2/8/B1Pp4/P4PPP/1N3RK1 w kq - 0 1
It's a mate in two:
1.d7+ Bxd7
2.Qg6#
Intermediate Problem - Black To Play

k4q2/pb6/1B1p1r2/6n1/Q3B2p/1R1P2P1/7P/4R2K b - - 0 1
1... Rf1+ 2. Rxf1
Best. The two other options lose more quickly:
A) 2.Kg2 h3#
B) 2.Bg1 Qf3+ 3.Bxf3 Bxf3#
2...Qxf1+
3.Bg1 Qf3+
4.Bxf3 Bxf3#
Advanced Problem - White To Play

8/8/p5pp/k7/1p1K1p2/1P3P1P/5P2/8 w - - 0 1
The idea is to force Black to advance his pawns to be captured while avoiding stalemate threats. It might look like this:
1.Kc5 g5
2.Kc6 h5
3.Kc5 g4
4.fxg4 hxg4
5.hxg4 f3
6.Kd5
Not 6.g5? stalemate.
6...Kb6
And Black's king won't be able to stop the pawn in time.
7.g5 Kc7
8.g6 Kd8
9.g7 Ke7
10.g8=Q winning
Hope to see you all next week!

Note: that cryptic line of letters and numbers you see underneath each board diagram is a representation of the position in what is known as "Forsyth-Edwards Notation", or F.E.N. It's actually readable by humans. Most computer applications nowadays can read FEN, so those of you who may want to study the position, you can copy the line of FEN and paste into your chess app and it should automatically recreate the position on its display board. Or, Windows users can just "triple click" on it and the entire line will be highlighted so you can copy and paste it into your chess app.
