The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition
The mainstream media (the media arm of the Democrat Party) desperately wants to isolate the violence on the streets from the larger mass of rioters, thus the ridiculous suggestions that there is Russian involvement or White Supremacists in the crowds or Martians or whatever. Anything other than the reality, which is glaringly obvious to anyone with a modicum of observational acumen.
Willing Fools: we all know a few. They are the ones who accept unquestioningly the blather from their political masters and run to every protest and chant and shout and march. They are not violent in the main, although at the margins they bleed into the other groups. They are the largest of the groups on the street, and probably absorb the most police energy. They are sheep, willing to follow the crowd, and happy to be led.
Violent, Opportunistic Thugs: They never met a riot they didn't like, and they use these events as excuses to express their asocial tendencies. When there are no riots they tend to mug grandmothers and rob stores and steal stuff.
Organized Terrorists: Antifa, BLM, ACORN, La Raza, SDS (in the 1960s) and a host of other organizations that are used by anti-American and anti-Western forces to foment violence and ultimately insurrection. They are the ones who guide the riots, escalate the random violence, provide logistics and organizational tools and communications. Just think Sturmabteilung...SA, and you will know exactly who they are.
Large-scale riots require the participation of all three groups. The parasitic terrorists use the other two groups as willing pawns in their game to overthrow the civilized order, and unfortunately there are thousands of them willing to participate.
The academic question is: who is guiding the terrorists? Are the commands emanating from the DNC, the various New-World-Order organizations (Soros!), or is it organic (clearly not)?
The more pressing question is: What should we do about it?
I'm all for a national discussion about law enforcement and its morphing from a functional system to an adversarial one that treats all of us as the enemy. And I will happily support peaceful demonstrations that call attention to this issue.
But when they veer off into violence, then the reaction should be swift and overwhelming. We have seen what happens when mayors and governors try to placate the mob. And we have seen what happens when they enforce the rule of law.
I choose the rule of law, and if it needs to be backed up with tear gas, batons, rubber (and live if necessary) bullets and the National Guard advancing down city streets with bayonets fixed? That's fine with me.
When the rioting has been quelled we will have the leisure time to investigate the roots, but for the time being, Kurt Schlichter was correct: federalize the prosecutions, and roll up the networks from the bottom up. The promise of a long stay in a federal prison will focus the minds of the rank-and-file terrorists and give them excellent motivation to expose their bosses.
