Nightmare Chaos: Democrats Plot/Expect a Brokered Convention

The Democrat convention rules require a candidate to get an outright majority of all delgates' votes on the first ballot, or else it goes to a second ballot, and becomes a so-called "brokered convention."

And on the second ballot, delegates are permitted to vote for candidates other than those they're pledged to.

And also -- the Establishment "SuperDelegates," the party hacks and Hillary dependents, get to vote on the second ballot and any subsequent ballots.

Mike Bloomberg has realized he can't wain the race, at least not by regular delegates. The "Bloomberg Fever" he'd been hoping for failed to infect America.

So instead he's plotting to stay in the race and come in second place (or, who knows, third or fourth), and try to deny Sanders his first ballot majority. And then convince the SuperDelegates and delegates for other alleged "moderates" to vote for him.

By the way, yeah, I think that Bloomberg's "arguments" will consist of money changing hands.

Oh wait, that's silly; Democrats are about fairness , not money.

Politico fears a brokered convention could "devolve into chaos."

You had me at "devolve into chaos."

Mike Bloomberg is privately lobbying Democratic Party officials and donors allied with his moderate opponents to flip their allegiance to him -- and block Bernie Sanders -- in the event of a brokered national convention.

The effort, largely executed by Bloomberg’s senior state-level advisers in recent weeks, attempts to prime Bloomberg for a second-ballot contest at the Democratic National Convention in July by poaching supporters of Joe Biden and other moderate Democrats, according to two Democratic strategists familiar with the talks and unaffiliated with Bloomberg.

...

The rule prohibiting superdelegates, or automatic delegates, from voting on the first ballot of a contested convention was instituted only after the last convention, which followed a primary in which superdelegates overwhelmingly sided against Sanders and with the establishment-oriented Clinton.

...

If Sanders secures a plurality of delegates but loses the nomination on a second ballot, many moderate and progressive Democrats alike predict the national convention in Milwaukee would devolve into chaos.

The Hill reports that Democrats once thought the idea of a brokered convention was too implausible to entertain, but now think it's likely.

They also think it's "the biggest nightmare."

You had me at "devolve into chaos" and "the biggest nightmare."

One Democrat who worked on two campaigns for former President Obama called a brokered convention "the biggest nightmare Democrats can imagine."

"If you want to see a complete shit show, tune in to the brokered convention," the Democrat said.

Adam Parkhomenko, who worked on former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign, said "this is currently heading for a convention fight at this rate."

"If the number of candidates scoring in the double-digits that are splitting delegates continue to do so through Super Tuesday and beyond, it’s just math, unless all of a sudden a number of candidates drop out," he said.

Who's dropping out if the prospect of a brokered convention, where anyone can make a case why they should be the nominee, can win?

The very notion of a potential brokered convention almost guarantees that enough candidates will stay in that will in turn guarantee a brokered convention.

Meanwhile, the creepy homosexual geek Pete Buttigiege is now calling on Bloomberg to drop out of the race.

Pete Buttigieg's campaign called on Michael Bloomberg to drop out of the Democratic presidential race following his rough debate performance, flipping the Bloomberg campaign's argument about the threat of Bernie Sanders back onto Bloomberg.

This is of course in response to Bloomberg's call for others to drop out.

"If Biden, Buttigieg, and Klobuchar remain in the race despite having no path to appreciably collecting delegates on Super Tuesday (and beyond), they will propel Sanders to a seemingly insurmountable delegate lead by siphoning votes away from [Bloomberg]," the Bloomberg memo read.

Everything about Buttigieg is annoying. He's a repellent creep of scarcely average intelligence who is convinced that everything he does is super-clever and ultra-cute.

Meanwhile, The Bulwark is in panic mode that Pierre Omidyar will make them endorse Sanders if he's the nominee if they want to be able to afford groceries.
