The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition
"Well, Doctor, what have we got—a Republic or a Monarchy?"
"A Republic, if you can keep it."
And people like any idiot who puts this app on his phone has signaled that he can't be bothered with antiquated notions of liberty and freedom, or a healthy suspicion of, and distaste for government power.
Mizzou students required to install location tracking app so college can 'pinpoint' them
New student-athletes at the University of Missouri are being required to participate in a tracking program designed to measure and enforce class attendance, a university spokesman confirmed to Campus Reform following a report from The Kansas City Star.
Despite privacy concerns, officials defended the decision as one to the benefit of students, as the school's athletics department has already been using the app, SpotterEdu, to track certain student-athletes. While athletes are required to use the app, new students who are not athletes will be able to opt-in to the program, a Mizzou spokesman clarified to Campus Reform.
Athletes (presumably on scholarship) are a slightly different issue, because they have a contractual arrangement with the university and have voluntarily given up at least some of the their rights. But the typical student has no such arrangement with the school, so these lazy and ignorant sheep will gleefully download a spy app to their phones, because it will save them the 34 steps to the sign-in sheet.
Unfortunately they are too stupid to realize that government power always...ALWAYS...expands. The passive tracking of today becomes the active surveillance of tomorrow. Sure, the school promises not to use the system for anything other than its stated function, and we all know that universities are famous for their integrity and honor and respect for our rights.
"Oh look...Joe Blow is meeting with the Republican Club of Missouri...we will have to double-check his senior thesis."
"Mr. Blow, surveillance indicates that you were in suite 343 in Steven Biko Hall at 2:31 am on January 19th. We have a reported theft and sexual assault. Can you prove that you did not steal the laptop in question, or rape 'Jane Doe'?"
"Your expulsion for participating in a Right To Life" march, proven by the Sniffer app you loaded onto your cellular phone may not be challenged. Best of luck in your future endeavors."
Passive acceptance of expanding government power is exactly why America is in its current state. The first step toward a freer country is the education of our youth that government is not our friend, that giving up any right, no matter how seemingly trivial and inconsequential, may have tremendous repercussions. Maybe not for these idiots, but for their children?
