The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition
There is so much disinformation about the border, our enforcement, the wall, and illegal immigration in general that I usually cast a jaundiced eye at optimistic data and commentary. Even in this article there may be variables that are not discussed, but the numbers are more solid than most, and my jaundiced eye is shedding a tear or two of joy!
Trump Is Quietly Winning Bigly At The Border
Last week, 18 people crossed the border illegally into Arizona hoping they could exploit a loophole in U.S. asylum policy to stay in the country. Instead, they found themselves shipped back to Mexico while their asylum claims are reviewed.
In the midst of impeachment mania and the killing of an Iranian general, this event captured little attention. But it’s part of a broader campaign that the Trump administration has quietly embarked upon to crack down on illegal border crossings. And – even without the wall – these policies are having a huge impact.
The trick of course is to continue to claw back the the rule of law that we lost in 1986 (yes Ronald Reagan, I am looking at you) and restore some semblance of sanity on the border. And then we move into the cities with similar policies. Why can we not immediately place illegals caught for other things into the same system? Yeah...I know the answer, but the process exists already, and it seems to be successful, which explodes the arguments of so many that it is impossible to send back even a small fraction of the illegals in our midst.
This isn't PollyanaBrown'sDildo...obviously it is a monumental undertaking, and one that probably won't happen. But if one part of the system works well...
