Democrat Jan Schakowsky: We Must Excuse the Muslim Ilhan Omar Because She Comes from a Different Culture That Has Different Feelings About Jews and Tolerance Than We Do
Does this mean it's acceptable to note that some of our recent arrivals from Muslim lands hold beliefs incompatible with the mainline of American pluralist thought, or does it mean only that one is permitted to note this if one is excusing a Muslim immigrant's antisemitism?
That is: Is this always true or only true when defending antisemtism in Muslims or other Democrat client groups?
Why is Trump a racist for pointing out what turns out to be mainstream Democrat thought?
Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D., Ill.) defended Rep. Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.) from charges of anti-Semitism Thursday, arguing she should receive some leeway because of her upbringing in Somalia.
Schakowsky confirmed reports that she yelled at her colleagues during a Democratic caucus meeting to "stop tweeting," after multiple Democrats condemned Omar's remarks that her pro-Israel opponents had "allegiance to a foreign country." At the same time, some Democrats voiced their support for the congresswoman, exposing division in the party.
"This is not a conversation that we ought to have on social media and in the public…" Schakowsky explained on MSNBC. "The majority of us are — vast majority are going to be voting for a resolution that I hope puts this to bed, that says, yes, as a Jew, anti-Semitism is a huge deal, the anti-Semitic acts are up 50 percent over last year."
"But Islamophobia is also a huge problem," she continued, "and I want to tell you that Ilhan Omar is under tremendous attack, death threats. I think maybe she needs some security. And why? Because I think, in part, the Republicans and the media have blown this up to be much more than it is."
If it's permissible for Schakowsky to generalize and stereotype an immigrant population, as she does here, for purposes of excusing away antisemitism, why are the rest of us not permitted to take her same assumptions -- that Muslim immigrants will tend to be more anti-Jew and anti-Western -- and make decisions about, say, the advisibility of letting in many thousands of refugees like Omar?
By the way: Ilhan Omar just happens to represent the US capital of foreign recruitment for ISIS terrorism.
Is this a coincidence?
Let's say I agree that Ilhan Omar's district is such a rich recruitment ground for ISIS terrorists because "they were born in a different culture."
She would use that as an excuse. That's fine.
I would like to accept her premise but come to a differing conclusion: Perhaps I don't want to permit as large a population of people with a higher-than-acceptable propensity to support jihadist terrorism into the country.
Why is the premise correct and true when she deploys it in favor of Omar, but the premise suddenly becomes FakeNews Hate when I accept it but use it arrive at a different conclusion?
It's All About Deferring to the Antisemites In Democrat Client Groups, Baby!
