Allen West Disagrees about Syria
West will never be confused with the AntiTrumpers, and I have to assume that he values the lives of our armed forces. So this is a puzzling, though sort-of-well-reasoned dissent.
President Trump's Syria Decision
I think he is partly correct, especially about the Kurds, but he also inadvertently finds the main point in support of leaving...
Having been a 22-year career army office who has deployed into combat, there is only one thing we ask of civilian leadership: give us the mission and let us see it to the end.
Does anyone believe that if only we had a few more months or a few more years, that the situation in Syria would be sufficiently calm and stable that we could leave? That is a naive and farcical view of the Middle East!
I am pessimistic about the Kurds' chances now that we are leaving. But I was pessimistic a week ago. Absent a concerted military effort (that means war with Turkey), does anyone see a way to a free Kurdistan?
