There are leaves on the trees, so this isn't recent, and I cannot imagine that the German authorities did absolutely nothing...just the bare minimum. But the tone in Germany has changed; of that there is no doubt.

Perhaps Merkel is pleased, perhaps she is simply overwhelmed, perhaps she is confident that she can ride the tiger. I wonder what the typical German thinks? Are they pleased with the direction their country is taking? Do they look into the future of their children and grandchildren and have hope?

I doubt it.
