An appropriate pic, given today's events. At least the artist got the board right. Click on the pic to see a larger version.
As always, the chess/dress pr0n thread is an open thread, so there is no such thing as an off-topic comment.
Easier Problem - White To Play (TCP 25)
Black just moved ...Bxa2, thinking he could just snatch a pawn for free. How can White show him that was A Bad Idea?
Goal: capture the bishop
Hint: cut off the bishop's escape
2k5/ppp1r1p1/4p3/2P1N3/5P2/4R1P1/bP5P/2K5 w - - 0 1
More Challenging Problem - Black To Play (805)
Goal: Cut off the white king from his defenders and mate
Hint: Bring the rook into play

Easier Problem - White To Play
2k5/ppp1r1p1/4p3/2P1N3/5P2/4R1P1/bP5P/2K5 w - - 0 1
1.b3!
The bishop is trapped and now the King can stroll over and pick it up at leisure. Play might continue:
1...Re8
2.Kb2 Rh8
3.Re2 Bxb3 (or 3...Rd8 4.Kxa2)
4.Kxb3 and White has more than enough material to win the endgame.
More Challenging Problem - Black To Play
1k6/2q2p1p/5p2/pp1p1K2/3P2P1/3R1Q2/5P1P/4r3 b - - 0 1
1...Re5+!
Of course, White can't take the rook: 2.dxe5 Qxe5#
So White's king has two escape routes. The first is:
2. Kxf6
Which leads to a mate on move 6:
2... Qd6+
3.Kg7 Qg6+
4.Kf8 Qh6+
5.Kg8 (if 5.Kxf7 then 5...Qg6+ 6.Kf8 Re8#)
5...Re8+
6.Kxf7 Qf8#
White can hold out the longest with:
2.Kf4 Re4+
3.Kf5 Qd7+
4.Kxf6 Qe7+
5.Kf5 h6
Takes away the g5 escape square.
6.Qf4+ Kb7
7.Qxh6 Qd7+
8.Kf6 Qe6+
9.Kg7 Rxg4+
White should resign at this point as he is forced to give up his queen.
10.Qg5 Rxg5+
11.Kf8 Qd6+
12.Kxf7
Play might continue:
12...Rf5+
13.Kg7 Qf8+
14.Kg6 Qf7+
15.Kh6 Rh5#

Note: that cryptic line of letters and numbers you see underneath each board diagram is a representation of the position in what is known as "Forsyth-Edwards Notation", or F.E.N. It's actually readable by humans. Most computer applications nowadays can read FEN, so those of you who may want to study the position, you can copy the line of FEN and paste into your chess app and it should automatically recreate the position on its display board. Or, Windows users can just "triple click" on it and the entire line will be highlighted so you can copy and paste it into your chess app.
