Update: David Hogg Was At School During Shooting, But Got His Camera from Home and Came Back Afterwards to Do Interviews
I overread David Hogg's statement yesterday. Although he did say he "raced to the school" on his bike in that interview, he didn't say he had been home all day before then. Which raises the possibility that he had been at school during the shooting, then left to go home for his camera, and then "raced" back to school.
This site -- Politifact, which I don't normally trust, but I'm going to credit it as accurate for now in this case -- says Hogg got to the school with his camera at 6 pm, which is obviously much later than any school closes and hence this particular arrival at school would be well after the school day was ended early due to the shooting. And therefore he would have had plenty of time to go home, get his camera, and come back, even including all those hours one would assume he wasn't free to leave due to police lockdown.
I'm pretty sure I leapt too quickly on this and didn't consider the was-there-and-left-and-then-came-back possibility.
We might hear more about this, but this timeline seems pretty plausible to me, and I think now we just heard a statement out of full context.
Somewhat related, TMZ is reporting Hogg was accepted to a number of schools, including Cal Poly, but was rejected from the University of California school system.
David has been rejected by the 4 University of California campuses where he submitted applications -- UCLA, UCSD, UCSB and UC Irvine. He says the rejection letters came 2 weeks ago. He has a 4.2 GPA and an SAT score of 1270.
Schools claim extracurricular activities count, but if organizing the March For Our Lives wasn't enough ... it's not clear what is. David is clearly disappointed.
David got accepted at Cal Poly, Cal State San Marcos and Florida Atlantic University, but he's not sure what he'll do after graduating.
He organized it? Well, whatever. I think it's interesting that it seems certain to media liberals that being politically active ought to count as an "extracurricular activity" that should get you into a college you would otherwise be rejected from.
Would they say the same about pro-2nd-Amendment student activists? Pro-life student activists?
Somehow, I think they would not.
TMZ figures schools should be "clamoring" to admit this Privileged White Male because he's a leftist -- which is what most students at these schools are.
So the diversity he'd bring is... none. None more diversity.
I imagine we can safely say that "diverse" is now just straight-up code for "leftist." And it doesn't matter if your school is packed with leftists; adding one more just makes it that much more "diverse."
