Fred Warmbier also dismissed whatever efforts were made on behalf of his 22-year-old son Otto by the Obama administration, which asked the family to keep a low profile when news of Otto’s arrest became public.

Obama's tenure was marked by downplaying foreign policy crises that he didn't give a fuck about. OPM hack? Downplayed it, got media to do the same. Obama's theory of foreign policy crises was that it's not a crisis if the public doesn't even know about it.

And thus his demand to the family that they not even tie yellow ribbons around trees to call attention to their son's plight.

Obama was content to leave the kid in North Korea, and it would have been politically troublesome for him had the story become a front page story, so he and his media friends made sure no one even knew about this.
