Well, This Is Frightening
"Proactive Compassion"?
( *shudder* )
That's just creepy, and I mean totalitarian creepy. Also, totalitarian-with-a-smiley-face creepy, which is the creepiest kind. I can well understand the jackboot and the hard rubber truncheons, wielded by unsmiling policemen. That's pretty bad, but it's far more creepy being told to bend over so you can get your dose of totalitarian thuggery rectally inserted by a nurse, social worker, or corporate diversity compliance officer.
The last thing we want is a bunch of virtue enforcers like Lena Dunham running around making sure that every nose is blown and every bottom is wiped.
As C.S. Lewis famously wrote:
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."
May God save us all from "proactive compassion."
Update:
A boot stamping on a human face forever.

That's the old-school jackboots-and-truncheon totalitarianism. This new totalitarianism is more like Trigglypuff sitting on a human face forever.
