A Little Of This, And Even Less Of That...
Here's an opinion piece from tomorrow's NYT. Don't bother clicking on it. You know what it says.
I Remember When Appalachia Wasn't Trump Country
It is not going to be easy for liberals to win back red states like West Virginia. Rush Limbaugh, Fox News and Donald Trump have been too successful in encouraging ugly feelings like the senseless hatred of Barack Obama. But liberals can start on the road back if they stop wounding themselves, advocate fair play for all, and instead of looking down on Trump voters as a bunch of boobs and bigots, listen to their concerns. If we don't listen, how can we persuade?
Well, I would argue that it isn't senseless, and that eight years of ceaseless attacks on what made America great -- which includes those coal miners in Appalachia who fueled America's growth and who were discarded as if they were not human -- makes that hatred quite rational.
And this is virtue signalling. Nothing more. The author has probably never met a Trump supporter, so it's just fluff. Hell, he has never met a man with a carry permit other than his bodyguard.
