Milton Friedman
Have you heard an office-holder or candidate say anything remotely along these lines about our federal government lately?
Government has three primary functions. It should provide for military defense of the nation. It should enforce contracts between individuals. It should protect citizens from crimes against themselves or their property. When government- in pursuit of good intentions tries to rearrange the economy, legislate morality, or help special interests, the cost come in inefficiency, lack of motivation, and loss of freedom. Government should be a referee, not an active player.
If not, why not?
Milton Friedman again:
"I do not believe that the solution to our problem is simply to elect the right people. The important thing is to establish a political climate of opinion which will make it politically profitable for the wrong people to do the right thing. Unless it is politically profitable for the wrong people to do the right thing, the right people will not do the right thing either, or if they try, they will shortly be out of office."
I think that is one of the things we are trying to do here. Are you making any progress with people in your personal life who are not part of The Horde? Suggestions welcome.
The Halloween display in CBS's post below is great!
I have a small suggestion of my own: This video featuring Adam Carolla is one of the 21 Prager University videos that Google, via YouTube, put in "restricted mode" to keep them from the eyes and ears of delicate teenagers. Maybe you could bypass Youtube and share it with some kids. Tell them a giant corporation that is in the tank for Hillary doesn't want them to see it.
Or you could sign the petition concerning all 21 videos. Don't be evil, Google.
