Ace kinda stole my thunder by posting on this yesterday (that's why he's the boss), but my take is a little different, so I thought I'd toss this up as a placeholder open thread to tide y'all over until the ONT.
So someone thought this was a good idea:
I'm honestly not surprised. 9-11 was 15 years ago. You have plenty of young adults in the working world for whom 9-11 might as well be the sinking of the Maine. They were either too young to really absorb what happened, or maybe they were shielded by well meaning parents or other adults. Then they went through a decade or more of Marxist/Prog indoctrination in the education system, being told that 9-11 was due to US Imperialism. Naturally, when they get into the workplace, they view 9-11 the same way they view Arbor Day, a not-very-important excuse for a holiday. Why not come up with a promotion to increase sales, and if it can be humorous at the same time, so much the better. What really amazes me is that anyone is surprised by any of this.
A similar Pearl Harbor themed sale would have been unthinkable in 1956. Why? Because students between 1941-1956 were taught American values and actual history. Now they are taught that traditional American values are evil and a “history” that never happened. This is the cost of losing the fight for the institutions, a fight most people didn't even realize was happening until it was all but over. Expect more of this in the future. Much more.
One final thought. Even granting the most innocent of intentions from the producers of the ad (I'm not claiming that, but I'm granting it for purpose of discussion), this is the kind of thing that will likely drive that mattress company out of business. The owner has issued what seems to be a sincere and heartfelt apology, but would you but a mattress there after this? I wouldn't. And yes, it's his fault for not exercising proper over site of his marketing department, but still, how many jobs will be lost, how many families harmed, how much hard work wasted, all because some indoctrinated fool had no idea that the values inculcated in him/her were abhorrent to most Americans?
