The Border Surge Continues, And No One's Doing Anything
Over 10,000 unaccompanied minors have been caught at the border in the past two months, compared to around 5,500 in the first two months of this year.
Rubio, meanwhile, continues trying to wriggle free of the amnesty noose he put around his own neck, trying a new tact: Hey, sure, my Senate version of the Gang of Eight proposal sucked, but that's just because the Senate was controlled by Harry Reid.
I was counting on the House to put all the stuff into the bill that I couldn't!
Here's what our own Drew says about that bullshit: It's bullshit.
Rubio inteded the Gang of Eight to pass in the House as written in the Senate. As AllahPundit asks, how could Rubio believe that the Democrat-held Senate would approve the alleged "tough border provisions" he secretly wanted in the bill, just because now the House was asking for them, when the Senate was dead against them?
On what planet was a more conservative immigration bill somehow going to pass the House and Senate? As Rubio says, Democrats controlled the Senate at that point with 54 votes. The Gang of Eight was a reflection of the reality that only a delicate bipartisan compromise with goodies for both sides (but mainly for liberals) could possibly hope to reach 60 votes, which it did. Anything that came back from the House with some of the Democratic treats, like a path to citizenship, stripped out would have been DOA in the Senate.
AllahPundit points out that Ted Cruz tried to make the bill tougher in the Senate, but his amendments were blocked-- by Rubio's hand, as a matter of fact.
The only reason it didn't pass the House, as written, was because the Revolt Against the Establishment then began in earnest.
As I keep saying, Rubio's lies are the most optimistic, youthful, and forward-looking lies of any candidate this race.
