Guy Dies In High Observation Jail Cell Because of Unpaid Traffic Ticket
The guy was in a high observation cell -- supposedly one of those most closely watched by police -- because they thought he was mentally unstable.
He wasn't, but he was an addict undergoing replacement drug therapy to cure his addiction. They didn't give him his prescribed drugs in jail, Reason says. (How do you not give a prisoner his prescribed drugs?)
So he went into withdrawal, and he died, while being watched in the high observation cell. Disturbing video there. (Why did they make him serve his sentence naked?)
So a guy who couldn't pay a $772 traffic ticket was sentenced to a month in jail, and essentially killed there after 17 days.
As Instapundit says, government is just the word for the things we do together, like killing minor scofflaws for no good reason.
Government is a scary thing, combining nigh-unlimited power over the body of the citizen with low employee competency.
