Chris Christie: I Would Have Told That Questioner That Obama is a Christian, Then Maybe Hugged Xer for an Uncomfortably Long Period of Time
Chris Christie reminds you why you went from liking him to hating him.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Friday called out Donald Trump for not correcting an audience member who falsely said Obama is a Muslim and "not even an American."
"If somebody at one of my town hall meetings said that, I would correct them and I would say, 'The President's a Christian and he was born in this country. Those two things are self-evident,'" Christie told NBC's "Today Show" on Friday. "I'll tell you what I would do, and I wouldn't have permitted that if someone brought that up at a town hall meeting of mine; I would have said, 'No, listen. Before we answer, let's clear some things up for the rest of the audience.' And I think you have an obligation as a leader to do that."
Wouldn't have permitted it?
This game of being pressured to police other people's speech is 1, anti-liberal, 2, tedious and exhausting, and 3, a one-way game, because it's only the left that gets to decide what speech will be policed.
Ten days ago Trump and Carson mutually questioned each other's religious bona fides. This was considered an issue, but not an Issue of Profound Concern. The media's stance was: Here is what this guy said, here is what that guy said.
They did not hector people into "shutting down such hateful rhetoric" nor make a three day story about it. (It will be three days, or more; trust me.)
Why?
Could it be because the media is insanely jealous of their gender-ambiguous Layabout Prince?
Meanwhile, Hillary, who actually peddled pictures of Obama in Somali traditional dress, is aghast that anyone might try to Otherize Obama.
Hot Air quotes Slate from 2008:
Today, the Drudge Report posted a big, fat headline that howled, "Clinton staffers circulate 'dressed' Obama." Accompanying the headline was a picture of Obama on a diplomatic trip to Kenya in 2006, wearing some type of traditional dress of the area--complete with a turban-looking headdress...
First, the Obama campaign sent around a press release at 9:29 a.m. from campaign manager David Plouffe, in which he said the photo is "exactly the kind of divisive politics that turns away Americans of all parties and diminishes respect for America in the world."
Then, at 10:54 a.m., Clinton's campaign manager, Maggie Williams, pierced the quiet with her own release. "Enough," she wrote. "If Barack Obamas campaign wants to suggest that a photo of him wearing traditional Somali clothing is divisive, they should be ashamed. Hillary Clinton has worn the traditional clothing of countries she has visited and had those photos published widely." She goes on to say Obama is trying to "distract from the serious issues." Note that they never refuted Drudge's piece...
In December, the [Clinton] campaign asked two of its employees to resign after they proliferated rumors that Obama was a Muslim.
The media is refusing to report that as they run, over and over, the Trump/Muslim story.
Of course, they also stopped all reports on that story in 2008, too, after Hillary was successfully defeated. After that, they claimed that only Republicans would do such a thing.
Update: The Only Thing the Media Cares About:
Right, exactly! When I first heard the media wanking themselves over this, I thought, "Okay, here it comes, they're going to crucify Trump for this other guy saying 'Muslims are a problem.'"
But the media gives no f***s about that. All they care about is that their Magic Boyfriend's reputation was besmirched.
