Who Are the Most Mediocre Acts in Rock n Roll History?
They have ten songs? I can only think of two.
@Alex_94706 called them the "epitome of rock mediocrity," up there with Cactus. (Who I don't even know.)
I then started to think: Who are the lamest bands on the Perpetual Classic Rock Playlist, the real mediocrities, or sub-mediocrities, who never should have been on there in the first place, but just got played so damn much that you knew their songs by heart without actually really liking them?
I'm pretty down on Boston, myself, though I guess they actually did something. That might not be a good example, because a lot of people like them.
But what about a-- this is a kind of controversial one -- Foreigner? Yes, they had hits. No, you wouldn't turn them off when they came on the radio. But have you ever really said "Man, I'd love if some Foreigner came on the radio right now, so I could just blast that out the windows and let the summer know I'm alive?"
No, right?
What about Bad Company? I only know who the hell they are because they sing a song called "Bad Company." They're like the Trump of corporate rock, always branding themselves.
Some bands are kinda lame overall but what if they've got that one really good song? One of those bands you wouldn't know except they've got that one cowbell-kickin' tune?
Blue Oyster Cult's Reaper had some cowbell. Nazareth's Hair of the Dog has all the rest of the cowbell.
Personally I'd say they're not mediocre because if you've ever put out even one very good song, you can't be mediocre.
Then there's those bands whose One Big Song is meh.
Anyway, just throwing this out there.
Oh, and I know a lot of people don't dig on rock -- obviously, feel free to nominate the most mediocre country acts. Or rap acts. Or whatever.
Open Thread. I know there are stories I didn't get to today. I'll put them up tomorrow.
