Unicorns And Skittles and Nuclear Weapons: Iran...Post The American Surrender [CBD]
The Empire State Building illuminated in celebration of the end of Ramadan; July 17, 2015
The agreement that we have accepted is bad for America, very bad for the Sunni nations of the Middle East, catastrophically bad for the nuclear non-proliferation movement, and even worse for Israel.
Even before the relaxation of sanctions and the release of $150 billion, Iran was a very bad actor in a miserable play, the ending of which everyone knows. With unfettered access to Western technology and a big bank account, it would be naive in the extreme to assume that Iran will suddenly embrace the world of nations, renounce its support for terrorism, welcome a dialogue with Israel, free its citizens from the clutches of an all-encompasing police state, and commit itself to retaking its position as the preeminent rug manufacturer and pistachio producer, with a nice steady stream of oil income as the backbone for the resurgence of Persia as a leader among nations.
Of course that will never happen, but the public naivete displayed by those involved is almost as silly sounding.
Merkel: "This would be a vital contribution for the security situation in the whole region..."
Putin : "We are certain that the world heaved a sigh of relief..."
Cameron : "... will help to make our world a safer place."
And the best one....Barack Hussein Obama:
When you hear the inevitable critics of the deal sound off, ask them a simple question: do you really think that this verifiable deal, if fully implemented backed by the world's powers, is a worse option than the risk of another war in the Middle East?
What these modern-day Chamberlains believe in their hearts is up for debate, but the public supposition that Iran will all of a sudden begin to obey the gentle requests of the West because they are wrapped in $150,000,000,000 is laughable. Iran has been the world's terror state for 35 years, has actively funded terrorism throughout the world, has publicly and officially called for the destruction of Israel and the United States of America, and is directly responsible for the deaths of hundreds of American soldiers in Iraq and elsewhere.
In reality, these "statesmen"are nothing more than run-of-the-mill politicians: no different than the local councilman selling his zoning board vote to a developer, or a congressman selling his vote to the Chamber of Commerce.
We all know what they are...the difference is that the "statesmen" demand a higher price.
But....to answer ChoomBoy's question:
No....this deal is not preferable to war; a war that could have been contained and controlled...driven by the noble goal of the protection of the innocent from the nuclear depredations of the evil terrorists of Tehran.
The deal you agreed to is not "verifiable," will not be "fully implemented" by the world's powers, and will inexorably lead to a further destabilized Middle East with a very real and significant threat of nuclear war.
You have guaranteed that Israel will respond militarily, you have guaranteed that Saudi Arabia and, perhaps, others will pursue their own nuclear programs, and you have handed the world's foremost supporter of terrorism the means to produce weapons of mass destruction.
For this you should be shamed and driven from the public square, and forever be known as a failure.
